5x expanded by Epicgenius (talk). Self-nominated at 17:59, 17 November 2023 (UTC). Post-promotion hook changes for this nom will be logged at Template talk:Did you know nominations/555 Edgecombe Avenue; consider watching this nomination, if it is successful, until the hook appears on the Main Page.
@Epicgenius: Can't use the unattributed ALT0 or the uncertain ALT1 (sources vary and we need WP:V) Our article adds a note to call out the variation of 2 or 3 years. ALT3 did not interest me. I have confirmed ALT2 as interesting and cited in the article. Earwig shows 24% and it only alerts to titles. The image is free and it renders well. The article has been five times expanded and nominated within the time frame allowed. The article is neutral. Good comprehensive article like I have come to expect from EG. My question is, can you add the names of a few African-American celebrities? At the moment the article makes the claim and my curiosity makes me want to click and see, but the source is offline. - Thanks for the review Bruxton. How about:
- ALT2A: ... that 555 Edgecombe Avenue, once named for a British soldier and occupied entirely by white Americans, later attracted notable African-Americans like Paul Robeson and Count Basie? The Daily News source says "Paul Robeson, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Langston Hughes, Zora Neale Hurston, Lena Horne, Joe Louis and Jackie Robinson all called the building home."

- Thanks for the review Bruxton. How about:
- @Epicgenius: I was referring to the article rather than the hook. But now I see that I missed the names as they are in the article! The new ALT also works. Thanks and happy new year! Bruxton (talk) 21:39, 31 December 2023 (UTC)

Hi, picking up one of your many nominations! It's my first experience with building-related GAs (outside of the Melbourne railroad station and Armenian church), so my suggestions are pretty soft :). —LastJabberwocky (Rrarr) 07:44, 26 July 2025 (UTC)
Links, sources, and copyright, and other
- all green

- The caption for the first image feels reasonable, but a tid bit awkward; can we change it into "The north (or east, etc; one of these) facade (2014)"?
- I have clarified the caption, changing it to "The eastern facade seen from the north". - EG
- Some of the sources in the references can be linked (e.g., New York Amsterdam News, New York Times, etc)
- Theoretically they can, but I typically don't link the publisher or work parameters for GAs or FAs. I wouldn't object if someone else does it, though. - EG
- Fair enough! Initially, I thought it's the policy to link referenced sources, but WP:REFLINK says it's optional. —LastJabberwocky (Rrarr) 07:10, 27 July 2025 (UTC)
- I'm not sure on the nature of the consensus regarding the navbox placement. This template doesn't seem to include 555 Edgecombe Avenue. I scanned Wikipedia:Navigation template, but couldn't figure out the guidelines. Do you know how this works :)? —LastJabberwocky (Rrarr) 07:44, 26 July 2025 (UTC)
- Yeah, this falls under WP:BIDIRECTIONAL. I've removed the NRHP and NYC Landmark boxes for now, since they don't mention this article. - EG Epicgenius (talk) 19:31, 26 July 2025 (UTC)
Prose
Simplification: the building is commonly referred to as being in Sugar Hill because of its high concentration of black residents.
→ it is commonly attached to Sugar Hill because of its high concentration of black residents.
- I changed this to "Although the building is five blocks north of the Sugar Hill Historic District, it is sometimes considered in Sugar Hill because of the building's high concentration of black residents." - EG
- The pdf source calls Roger Morris "British Lieutenant Colonel" is it equivalent to officer?
- Yeah, a colonel is a type of officer. I've clarified this. - EG
- Sources [7] and [15] don't name the "Coogan's Bluff", but [7] identifies the bluffs in relation to other landmarks, so I think we're good.
