English: Example of a median sternotomy performed on a young Caucasian male, to correct a congenital heart defect (London, Nov 2023). The picture of the wound is taken around 72 hours after the procedure. Note the smaller stitches at the bottom of the wound which highlight the location of where the draining tubes were placed to remove excess fluid from the heart and lungs.
