Eric Hipwood (born 13 September 1997) is an Australian rules footballer who plays for the Brisbane Lions in the Australian Football League (AFL).

Early life

Hipwood was born in Melbourne and moved with his family to the Sunshine Coast at three years of age,[2] where he attended Maroochydore State High School throughout his teenage years. He began playing junior football for the Caloundra Australian Football Club but gave the game away at 11 years of age due to stronger interest in soccer and rugby.[3] At age 13, while playing school football, Hipwood was offered a spot in the Brisbane Lions academy and duly progressed his way through Queensland's junior representative sides. In 2015, he switched football clubs and played for Aspley in Brisbane's northern suburbs in an attempt to increase his chances of being drafted. The move paid off as Hipwood was drafted with the fourteenth pick in the 2015 AFL draft after Brisbane matched Richmond's bid on him.

AFL career

Hipwood played his first AFL game for the Brisbane Lions in Round 13 of the 2016 season against West Coast.

He was nominated for the 2017 AFL Rising Star for his efforts in the Lions' 32-point loss to the Western Bulldogs at Etihad Stadium in round five.[4]
