:I wouldn't add "former" just yet, as [[Marlon King]] is also a convicted sex offender (amongst other things) and has been hired by other clubs following his release from prison. I would say it is best to wait until after Johnson's (likely) sentence ends, as [[Ched Evans]] is not described as a "former footballer". This article is semi-protected, so could someone change his current club to Manchester City? Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.22.194.128 (talk) 18:32, 1 February 2010 (UTC)
Relegation and 2009-10 season
The Cardiff game was played on 13 December 2009, not 12th. It moved as it was live on Sky. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.108.107.130 (talk) 09:41, 2 February 2010 (UTC)

Child sex charge
The article should specify wether the girl was an actual child or just a teenager below the UK's age of consent. How old was she at the time of the alledged events.

- Thank you. The readers will be relieved to know he didn't rape a toddler. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.27.46.203 (talk) 18:49, 10 February 2016 (UTC)
Technically still under the child sex laws Philb1984 (talk) 19:46, 10 February 2016 (UTC)

In the first paragraph, the word "child" should be replaced with "under age", this should also apply to any subsequent references to the word "child" Jlambton (talk) 20:14, 11 February 2016 (UTC)
- The source says child, even though sexual activity with a 16- or 17-year-old child in the UK (apart from if a teacher or similar position of care) is perfectly legal '''tAD''' (talk) 20:22, 11 February 2016 (UTC)
- The text in question has since been edited and the introduction states the girl's age. --Super Nintendo Chalmers (talk) 11:19, 12 February 2016 (UTC)
Infobox - the guy's currently a free agent - am I allowed to put that on his Infobox or not?
I did earlier on but it got deleted and no explanation was given. At the moment it's confusing and in theory anybody could click on the page, read the Infobox, and presume that he still plays for Sunderland Huddsblue (talk) 00:56, 12 February 2016 (UTC)
- 'Free agent' isn't a club, so it shouldn't be in the infobox. Mattythewhite (talk) 00:59, 12 February 2016 (UTC)
That seems extremely pedantic tbh. 'Free Agent' is the standard description on a Wikipedia Infobox for a player without a club. Huddsblue (talk) 01:18, 12 February 2016 (UTC)
- Is it, though? Mattythewhite (talk) 01:40, 12 February 2016 (UTC)
I believe so, yes. His Infobox doesn't currently make it clear whether he's currently playing for a club or not Huddsblue (talk) 02:10, 12 February 2016 (UTC)
- The infobox follows the standard convention for footballers (and I think most sportspeople). If there's an end date on a player's time at a club (which there is for Sunderland) the player has left that club; if there's no end date (it says for example 2013–) then the players is still at the club. So the infobox as is states that he left Sunderland in 2016 (which he did). There's no need to put 'free agent' (particularly as it's not clear if he is - would he sign for a club if they offered him a deal tomorrow? I don't really know). I'd suggest raising this at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football if you want to explore whether this is clear or not. --Super Nintendo Chalmers (talk) 11:17, 12 February 2016 (UTC)
Relationship update
In light of his now clearly ex-girlfriends evidence in court today, the relationship since a point shortly after his arrest is now in the past.Telegraph BBC Independent Mirror — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2.101.136.55 (talk) 16:36, 25 February 2016 (UTC)
Former professional
Given that he will (almost certainly) be going to prison was child sex offences, I would say that its safe to say that he is now a "former professional football player". No professional club would ever hire a convicted sex offender. Could he even play professionally when on the sex offenders register?
To compare: Steve Randell, an Australian cricket umpire whose professional career ended when he was convicted of abuse. The start of his article says "a former Australian Test cricket match umpire". Gaia Octavia Agrippa Talk 17:12, 2 March 2016 (UTC)
