Advice

Muriel, I come to you for advice. This is why I posted here about the copyright issue I have been reading on the infringement talk page. It showed copyright issues in page history as an unsettled issue. Since you have been highly involved in the copyright infringement pages I thought you could help me. I was only looking to discover if you knew of a solution or if the guiding principle was other than I had read. I will try to follow your direction and do my best to keep some track of the copyright violations in page history as they appear. I hope I have not offended you with my request for information. (You have offended me with your implication of close association with Anthony.) - Texture 15:30, 18 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Thanks

Many thanks for looking the Maria Pia pages over. I'm glad you found the Orders of Chivalry link useful. It certainly has a lot of good information (but it sometimes makes my browswer crash! Too Fancy! :() -- Nunh-huh 16:49, 18 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Hi Muriel, I have working through the list on opera house and got to Teatro Nacional São Carlos this morning. Alas, I couldn't find much historical information on the building on the web. The organization's website [1] moreover is only in Portuguese :-( Can you help out? Un beso... -- Viajero 09:48, 20 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Hello Muriel, I just noticed your note on my talk page posted already on March 12 I learned about your copyright infringement notice through the internet search engines. I responded on the Aplusplus talk page as I was asked to do. Later I made a statement on the Georg P. Loczewski talk page that you had obviously created. I got no response so I contacted as sysop with an e-mail address, i.e. Toby Bartels. To I found by accdident your note on my talk page. Well now this is my response to you: in my statements previously mentioned I gave Wikipedia the permission to use my articles under the terms of the GFDL and yesterday I placed the whole A++ web-site under the GFDL. Please note that in the Aplusplus article I am no more referring to my old domain but to the new subdoman that I have created for A++: http://aplusplus.lambda-bound.com. Feel free to contact me via e-mail, which is simpler and more effective because I check my e-mail a couple of times a day: gpl@lambda-bound.de or gpl@lambda-bound.com. Thanks George. -- Gploc 14:00, 21 Mar 2004 (CET)

Admin Nomination

Hello, I would appreciate your help by earning your vote as an admin. I have been here about 5 months now and have been nominated. I have made many contributions and have improved on my editing and behavior. I take this seriously, that is why I have gotten into it with Anthony so much. You can look at my user page yourself and see my contribtions. I would appreciate a vote in the yes column if you agree. Again, thanks for your time and help. ChrisDJackson 02:34, 13 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Mediation

The arbitration committee has referred the issues of Anthony's reverts and alleged trolling to the mediation committee. If you would like to be involved in mediation on these issues please leave a message at Wikipedia:Requests for mediation. I am cross-posting this message to all those who commented at Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Anthony DiPierro and to Anthony. Regards -- sannse (talk) 21:43, 25 Apr 2004 (UTC) (mediation committee).

Desysoping

If you wish Muriel. That should be done (crossing fingers :-)). I have no idea why you are asking, but since it is a personal request, feel free to ask for sysoping again anytime. If you are under wikistress, my best to you. If you go on holidays, lucky you :-) Wikilove SweetLittleFluffyThing 11:43, 27 Apr 2004 (UTC)

oh, right. I really know what you mean... Good to know you still around :-) ant

Image deletion request

Happy to oblige, and have done already. Now you have to let me know how you produce those family tree images: I have some I need to do for a display in July. -- Graham  :) | Talk 13:24, 7 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

Lucius

Hi Muriel! from the Picmaster. I don't know any sources of noble Roman heads because it's not my field so I tried typing "Lucius Cornelius Sulla" in the Google search box (with quotes around it to say I wanted that exact name) and clicked IMAGES. The problem is that I couldn't tell if the images that then appeared were copyright or not so whether you use one is up to you (as I'm sure you know, the Image Description Page has to say if the pic is copyright or public domain). I would be inclined to think that the two busts from the URLs below are PD but I'm only guessing! The two best images seem to be on: [2] and [3].
Sorry I can't help properly, Best Wishes, Adrian.

I made a lot a little contributions : corrections in the eo:WP. I also made tabelizations (list of presidents and such). I am working about creation and utilization of {{msg: . I am making interlanguages links when I notice. I can define myself as a meta-contributor. My personal contributions are about esperanto (I looked after articles in 40 languages, see also Propedeutic value of Esperanto on en eo fr ), biographies of esperantists as Frederic Pujulà i Vallés in ca en eo fr, William Auld or Teodoro Schwartz, the Paris Commune and Le Père Duchesne (I put articles in eo fr en de). Pic sources

Sorry, I don't have sources of general pics except for aircraft (where I have many sources).
On your copyright question (of who owns the copyright of a picture on WP) I only know that I maintain no copyright whatever on my pics and so I can’t help you further on that question. Just in case you’re interested, here’s a typical message I put on the Image Description page (only for the pics I have taken myself):

DAS Air Cargo DC-10 landing at London (Heathrow) Airport.
Photographed by Adrian Pingstone in April 2004 and released to the public domain.

In other words, any one can use my pics anyhow they like, for commercial gain or whatever and I don't care. You can't get more copyright free than that!
If I've taken a pic from a (copyright-free) web site then I always copy the copyright notice onto the Image Description page, thus:

KC10 refuelling tanker.

COPYRIGHT: Quote from af.mil: Information presented on Airforce Link is considered public information and may be distributed or copied. Use of appropriate byline/photo/image credits is requested.
PICTURE PREPARED for Wikipedia by Adrian Pingstone in May 2004.

None of which answers your question, of course! Best Wishes, Adrian.

That Hilda Woman

I see that Dom Sousa has been busy, and that you've moved the article to Hilda Toledano. A very good call, I think. I've made some changes to it, mostly grammatical, but also trying to keep it real, so you may want to revisit it to check them. On the research side, I found this newsgroup posting very interesting, though obviously the tale of her purportedly gay husband's relationship with the current claimant can't be added to the article without confirmation<g>. - Nunh-huh 21:36, 13 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

About the name of Maria Pia of Bragança you can see the family tree of Royal House of Bragança in one of the most important historical portuguese encyclopedia named “Història de Portugal” Vol. III of A.H. de Oliveira Marques (page 112-113) and you can see the name Maria Pia (born 1907) ,daughter of the King Carlos, in sketched line because She was still alive when this volume was published and indicated as pretender to portuguese throne. The web page with pages of this encyclopedia are: http://www.theroyalhouseofportugal.org/media/docs/libri/copertina.jpg and http://www.theroyalhouseofportugal.org/media/docs/libri/albero-medio.jpg This is one of the most important portuguese historical source. The name Hilda Toledano was only a pseudonym in a fascist period. This is the Truth. Manuel de Sousa

tortoise death

I assumed the List of people who died with tortoises on their head was a feeble joke from a bored kid, not a serious(?????) article. It's not worth getting into a vfd debate about something so - pardon my bluntness - foolish; wikipedia is home to too much debating as it is. Judging from your list of articles you certainly know how to do better things than create articles so silly, but so be it. - DavidWBrooks 23:52, 15 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

Eyes

You'd make a really good Moslem woman, Muriel - showing nothing except those eyes! Don't be offended - I really like that pic:-) It has a certain originality about it, and it is ... cute. (I can't think of a better word than that). It certainly makes your user page look warmer:-) David Cannon 11:22, 19 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

Sancho I

About: pl:Dyskusja:Władcy Portugalii. This is a list of portuguese kings. Sancho I was also a king of Castille, but it doesn't interfere this list in my opinion. Sancho I is going to be mentioned once again, when a list of kings of Castille will be created. Where is the problem ? Olaf

All right, now I think I understand. There were two _different_ kings named Sancho I - a king of Castille and a king of Portugal. There should be a disambiguation page. You are right, I'm going to create it right now. Thank you ! Olaf

Dear Muriel I've put Luis back in as a person who is recognised by some reference works as a king, but acknowledged that others do not so recognise him. Interesting background about the BVM holding the Crown of Portugal. What do you know about any connections this attribution has with the Fatima apparitions?? Rulers of Saxony

Good afternoon. On VfD, you proposed Albert III, Elector of Saxony and several related pages for deletion rather than for redirection. I don't want to clutter up VfD more than it already is, so I thought I'd share my thoughts here. Despite the fact that there is no such person, we have evidence that at least one person thinks there is. They must have because they created the page. Others may be making the same mistake when they search for the real person. Leaving the old page with the wrong title but redirecting it to the right title preserves the person's contributions and catches future mistaken searches but at the same time sends all those requests to the right place where they can learn about the person under the correct title. Now I would not advocate making up new redirects just for the sake it (such as King Bush -> President Bush), but once someone else has already made an incorrect page (which I believe will usually be an honest mistake), I believe that a redirect is a better fix than a deletion. If nothing else, it prevents future contributors from committing the same mistake by recreating the article under the same wrong title. Rossami 18:26, 25 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Rossami, i understand your concerns and normally i am not an advocate for redirect deletion. Now, since there is no one with this name, tell me, exactly to which of the dukes and electors of Saxony do you want to redirect Albert III to? Its a random decision for you to make. Cheers, MvHG 07:48, 26 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]
Interesting question. First, let me say that I have no expertise in this area. My knowledge is largely limited to what I've learned by surfing through some of the related Wikipedia articles. Given the content of the article before the VfD discussion came up [4], I would have pointed the redirect to Albert, Duke of Saxony and assumed that the III was a mistake. (The article is an orphan so "what links here" does not help to divine the original author's intent in this case.) Since there were multiple leaders of Saxony with the first name of Albert, it might be appropriate to redirect to Rulers of Saxony and let readers find the right one themselves.
As I think about it more, I'll be bold and redirect to Albert, Duke of Saxony but also add a mention of the list Rulers of Saxony to the page with a note about possible disambiguation. Please revert if you think I've guessed wrong. Rossami 18:32, 26 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]
Good morning. I would not say that I am very keen on keeping that link to "Rulers of Saxony" on the "Duke Albert" page. It was more of an experiment. May I suggest that we post your question to me on the article's Talk page and let's see if anyone else has thoughts? By the way, I don't really care whether the disambig notice is at the top or bottom. In most articles I've worked on, the notice was at the top but if it feels to you like it interferes with the flow, please change it.
As for redirecting to one of the other Electors, I was basing my decision (guess) mostly on the biographic details in the oldest versions of the article. Despite getting the name and title wrong, they seemed closest to the Duke. Again, no strong feelings. Just a guess. Rossami 13:19, 27 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

Byzantine emperosrs

Hi Muriel, I don't really have time to make family trees myself, nor do I really understand how to make them in the first place :) I'm sure they will be very complicated, a lot of emperors weren't related to any others, or were very distantly related. I'll help out if you need me, but lately I have been more interested in writing about medieval French counties and duchies, as I see you have been doing as well! Volestrangler

You know, whenever I see your new MvHG signature I can't help but be reminded of Wing-commander Muriel Volestrangler, FRHS and Bar, which in turn means I get a mental image of John Cleese in an RAF woman's uniform. Yuk :) -- Finlay McWalter | Talk 23:54, 28 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

So, if you see Cleese disguised as a woman in Edinburgh in July, you'll know that he is there to see the Pixies :) MvHG 08:39, 30 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]
You know, I'm so damn frustrated by that. It's likely the last chance I'll ever get to go to another Pixies concert, and some inconsiderate friend of mine is getting married that day (the 10th) in Sonoma, California (the hottest place in the galaxy). I did ask them to move it, and the bastards wouldn't ;( -- Finlay McWalter | Talk 10:45, 30 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]
