English: U.S. Army Sgt. 1st Class Michael Nelson, right, and 1st Lt. Brandon Bowden pull security during a road assessment mission in Farah province, Afghanistan, May 9, 2012. Their unit includes Alaska National Guard infantrymen, who are responsible for ensuring the safety of those assigned to Forward Operating Base Farah. The base includes soldiers, sailors and airmen working with various government and nongovernment agencies to promote governance and stability.
