Talk:Big Six (Premier League)

Suggestions

I'm not able to give a full article review but here are a few thoughts in case helpful.

There are some inconsistencies when talking about historical records, e.g. "Manchester City started to purchase elite players and qualified for the UEFA Champions League in 2011, for the first time in its history" - only true if Champions League is considered a separate entity from the European Cup. In the later Honours section these competitions are grouped together.

"The Big Six dominated the finishing places of the top four in the Premier League between 2010 and 2022, with the 2015–16 season being the only one without a top-four finish by a Big Six club, as it ended with Leicester City becoming the champions for first time.[21] In seasons between 2010 and 2024, there were twelve occurrences of a Big Six club not finishing in the top six, and between 2019 and 2024, there was one season in which the Big Six clubs finished in the top six of the league, shifting from the 2016–17 to 2019–20 seasons, when the Big Six occupied all top-six places." - both sentences contain factual inaccuracies.

Players section: this may be true of the Premier League era but certainly not true in generality, e.g. Andy Cole and Clive Allen and probably others should qualify. The date restriction here is somewhat arbitrary and not explained.

The 'Future' section feels quite speculative, liable to change, and is mainly supported by opinion pieces.

The timing stated for the 'Big Two', 'Big Four' etc periods also feels quite arbitrary and leads to some inconsistencies, e.g. "Manchester United won five league titles (1999–2000, 2000–01, 2002–03, 2006–07, 2007–08), while Arsenal secured two (2001–02, 2003–04)" - why are 1998 and 1999 not included here, if these years are considered part of the 'Big Two' period? If Big Two, Big Four etc are recognised terms, then they should probably receive the same level of prominence within the article as Big Six (i.e. avoid recency concerns).

All of these terms (including 'Big Six' itself) are mainly media-driven terms so it would be good to hear from others as to whether 'Big Six' itself is encyclopaedic enough as a concept to warrant a full article. Tffff (talk) 17:56, 17 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
