Talk:Arab states of the Persian Gulf

There's no " Arab Gulf "

Indeed according to valid resources and also the great history of Iran there's no Arab Gulf and it has been Persian Gulf til this moment. Please Edit that. 2.177.88.146 (talk) 17:13, 16 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Plenty of sources refer to the Gulf as the "Arabian Gulf." Both "Persian Gulf" and "Arabian Gulf" are valid names, although "Persian Gulf" is the most widespread name. Cchiare (talk) 23:56, 25 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Claiming that there is “no Arab Gulf” ignores the present-day reality of the region. Whether or not the term “Persian Gulf” appears in older historical sources does not determine how a region should be identified today. Geographical names evolve to reflect current cultural, political, and demographic conditions — and in modern times the Gulf is overwhelmingly defined by the Arab states that surround it. The majority of its coastline, population, economic influence, and strategic control belong to Arab countries, and the water lies directly along the Arabian Peninsula. Because of this contemporary reality, the term Arabian Gulf is not only legitimate but fully justified. History is important, but it cannot overwrite the clear Arab identity and regional ownership that shape the Gulf today. ~2025-38798-83 (talk) 00:15, 6 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Improving the Article and Removing Tags

Hello everyone, and @Lililolol in particular.

I saw that the article was tagged (is that the right word?) for Encyclopedic Tone and verification, and wanted to take it upon myself to improve it such that it is deemed appropriate to remove those tags. I would appreciate some feed back on whether I got there or not, and any tips to get the article to an even higher level. Also would appreciate a tip on how to remove or add such tags (or whatever they're called) myself.

Thank you kindly,

The article title Arab states of the Persian Gulf does not accurately reflect the modern reality of the region. The Gulf is bordered almost entirely by Arab countries—Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, the UAE, Oman, and Iraq—and its cultural, economic, and political identity is overwhelmingly Arab. The body of water lies along the Arabian Peninsula and has been shaped historically and currently by Arab societies. Using the name Arabian Gulf acknowledges this reality and aligns the article with how the region is recognized by the countries that surround it, providing a more accurate and representative description of the Gulf and its states.
