Summary

Description
English: Painting of the barque Lady Blackwood, by English artist George Gregory, dated 1892. The work commemorates a voyage made in 1829. The ship's master at that time was Capt. John Dibbs. The Lady Blackwood was built in Calcutta in 1821 for the Australian colonial traders Campbell and Co. and is most likely named after the wife of Sir Henry Blackwood who was Commander-in-Chief of the East Indies 1819-1822. The Lady Blackwood had several subsequent masters, and was eventually sold to a San Francisco buyer in March 1847. It was wrecked off the coast of British Columbia about 1872. The ship’s bell is in a Church in Comox BC.
