Mahlagha Jaberi Dashtestani (Persian: مه‌لقا جابری, born 17 June 1989) is an Iranian model and social media personality.[1][2] In the early 2010s, she gained widespread attention among Iranian and Arab users by sharing digitally altered images of herself on social media platforms such as Facebook and Myspace.[3][4]

After immigrating to the United States, Jaberi pursued modeling more seriously through Instagram, establishing it as her primary career.[5][6]

Early life and career

Mahlagha Jaberi was born on June 17, 1989, in Isfahan, Iran. She is the youngest member of her family and has three older sisters: Khatereh, Raheleh and Arezou. Her sister Arezou was previously a model and has been active in the modeling field. Both Mahlagha and Arezou began their modeling journeys by posing for photography projects directed by their sister Raheleh, a professional photographer.[7][8]

During her teenage years, Jaberi began her career as a face model in Iranian beauty salons and collaborated with bridal fashion houses. A pivotal moment occurred by chance at a nail salon, when a makeup artist asked her to model for a bridal photoshoot. This encounter sparked her transition into professional fashion modeling and opened new opportunities in the industry.[9][10]

At the age of 19.5, Mahlagha moved to the United States, where she advanced her modeling career with greater dedication in California. In 2009, with the assistance of her sister Raheleh, she completed her first modeling project for the website Dreamstime.[11][3]

In 2012, she made her runway debut as a bridal model at the Iranian fashion show organized by *Negah Magazine* in San Diego.[12][13]

In 2013, Jaberi collaborated with Iranian designer Pedram Pasha Taheri, founder of the Pedram Couture brand specializing in eveningwear and bridal gowns. She walked the runway for the brand, including its 2014 evening collection, at Los Angeles Fashion Week.[14][15][16] That same year, she also worked with American designer Michael Costello (owner of the Stello brand)[17][18] and Walter Mendez,[19][20] participating in joint advertising photography projects and fashion shows. During 2014 and 2015, she appeared on the runway at Los Angeles Fashion Week for Pedram Couture, Stello, Walter Mendez, and Rochelle Carino, showcasing designs from these brands.[21][22][23][24]

In 2018, Jaberi began working as a model for the Saudi brand Eman Alajlan. She made her first appearance at the Cannes Film Festival in 2021, walking the red carpet in a gown by the brand.[25][26]

Since 2023, Jaberi has served as the face of the Glamor beauty clinic in Riyadh, owned by dermatologist and aesthetic specialist Dr. Fadi Nasr.[27][28] She has publicly referenced receiving beauty treatments at the clinic on multiple occasions.[29][30][31]

In 2023, Jaberi also had a one-off advertising collaboration with the Saudi perfume brand Ibrahim Al-Qurashi, appearing in the official promotional video for the "Pink Diamond" fragrance[32][33] and attending as a special guest at the launch event for the brand's "Diamond" collection in Riyadh.[34][35] That same year, she featured in an advertising campaign for the "Palm Designs" brand, appearing in photographs and promotional content centered on Arabic abayas.[36]

Also in 2023, Jaberi participated as a "face model" in two specialized makeup masterclasses held in Dubai, collaborating with renowned makeup artists Nora Bo Awadh and Patrick Ta.

Other works

In 2021 Jaberi appeared as a model in the music video for "Horme To" by Ebi.[37]

In 2022, Jaberi starred in the short fashion film Basic Code, directed by Victoria Pashuta and produced by M. Cherry Productions in collaboration with Basic magazine. The five-minute, dialogue-free cinematic photoshoot focuses on diverse fashion styles and outfits. Jaberi portrayed a senior detective character while showcasing a range of clothing looks.[38][39]

Personal life

On August 22, 2025, Jaberi announced via an Instagram post that she got engaged to Armin Asadyari on June 10, 2025. They then officially celebrated their engagement in a ceremony on August 25, 2025.[40][41]

Controversies

In 2011, Mahlagha Jaberi gained widespread attention among Iranian and Arab social media users by posting daily photos (mostly beauty retouched selfies) on platforms such as Facebook and MySpace, which significantly boosted her fame.[3][8] Her green-gray eyes, which were her most prominent physical feature, played a major role in making her photos go viral online; However, years later, in 2021, she revealed that her natural eye color is "dark brown" and that she had previously used colored contact lenses and Photoshop.[42][43] Reddit users had previously criticized Jaberi for excessive beauty retouching and filters on her Instagram posts. These criticisms grew stronger following her appearances at the Cannes Film Festival and the publication of unedited photographs by Getty Images[44] photographers.[45][46]

In 2017, Jaberi drew attention by commenting "Seni Seviyoruz" ('We love you' in Turkish)[47] on a post by prominent Turkish actor Burak Özçivit.[48] While the comment increased her visibility among Turkish audiences and added to her fame, it also attracted negative reactions from both Iranian and Turkish social media users. In a subsequent interview with the Iranian magazine Pol[49], Jaberi said that Özçivit had blocked her on Instagram and that "people took my comment the wrong way and interpreted it as I was "in love with him;" which was not true".[50]

In a 2021 interview, Finnish blogger Kira Lindbohm accused Mahlagha Jaberi of stealing and editing one of her images. Lindbom stated: "Some influencers with millions of followers unethically copy and manipulate others' content, which is completely unprofessional behavior. In 2019, during a trip to Tulum, Mexico, I took artistic photos and posted them on Instagram. Two years later, I saw one of my photos on an influencer's page named Mahlagha Jaberi, who had photoshopped her face over mine and claimed the photo was hers, despite it receiving over a hundred thousand likes!"[51][52]

In 2023, Jaberi appeared on the red carpet of the 76th Cannes Film Festival[53] in a dress with a rope-shaped neckline,[54][55] in protest of executions by the Iranian government.[56][57][58] According to Jaberi, the phrase "Stop Executions" was written on the back of the dress,[54] which was prevented from being shown by festival security forces as the festival does not allow political statements.[59] Jaberi then posted a video on her Instagram with the same dress and the hashtag #StopExecutionsInIran.[60][60] Some social media users and supporters praised her action, viewing it as an effort to draw attention to Iran's social issues, while a number of journalists and other users deemed the video irresponsible and provocative.[61][62][63]
