Welcome to my user talk page!

Please do all of the following:
  • Always link to the text, image, or edit you want to discuss. When linking to an image, use a colon. For example, "[[:Image:Example.jpg]]" produces "Image:Example.jpg".
  • Don't forget to provide a proper Edit Summary for each and every edit, and a proper signature for each and every post to a talk page or notice board. I may revert edits that do not have such features, rather than respond to them.
  • Reply to interactive messages at the location of the original topic to not scatter talk all around, fracturing the discussion. I do have nearly all pages I have posted to recently on my Watchlist. If I missed a comment, please use {{Talkback}} to drop me a short reminder with a link here.
  • Respect my babel boxes. Write in English. I'm also able to communicate in Spanish a bit, but with that language I can't give a guarantee that I will really comprehend the meaning of your message.
  • If you're copying files from any project to Commons, be sure to use the CommonsHelper.
  • If you're copying pics from Flickr, be sure to use Flinfo, the easy way to upload pics from Flickr.
  • If your text or image is lacking source, license, or permission, fix that instead of asking here what is wrong. There should be a message on your talk page explaining things in detail. Apologies for having to be so clear if this message is not related to the matter you would like to address.
  • Post if you want to reach me, or reply to a post below via the edit link above that post.

So long, and thanks for all the fish!

Ahem....

Please explain how these edits constituite vandalism. And don't crack it at me for picking you up on it. It's not nice to bite newcomers just because they don't know how things are done propery like you and me. Steven Zhang The clock is ticking.... 02:30, 5 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The user has 358 edits to the English and Spanish Wikipedias, and has been editing for over a week. Shabidoo asked him to provide references at 02:47 on 28 July 2010 (UTC). Analyzing his actions today from his user talk page: first he blanked Mathías Cabrera; second he removed content in this edit without explanation; third he added unsourced content to a BLP in this edit; fourth he added more unsourced content to a BLP in this edit; finally he deleted a dated prod blp template in this edit. All of those actions are unacceptable without explanations.   — Jeff G.  ツ 02:46, 5 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
But still, it's not vandalism. Their actions to me don't look like a deliberate attempt to screw the encyclopedia. Cut newbies some slack, ok? :) Poke them in the right direction. Don't just say YOURE DOING IT WRONG, but explain why they're wrong, and not with lots of links like WP:VAND, WP:POL, WP:V, WP:NPOV, and so on. We're used to it, but to a newcomer that just looks like nonsense. :) Steven Zhang The clock is ticking.... 02:54, 5 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I thought Shabidoo had already done that a week ago. How long does a user stay a newbie?   — Jeff G.  ツ 02:55, 5 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Until their editing improves. If they're truely a vandal, it will become evident that they're here only to cause trouble. Otherwise their editing will improve eventually. 03:00, 5 August 2010 (UTC)
OK, so do you consider this edit vandalism?   — Jeff G.  ツ 03:02, 5 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Not after seeing the revision after it. It became evident that they wanted the page deleted after, but not at the time I undid their edit. Steven Zhang The clock is ticking.... 03:06, 5 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

i created my first article today listing the profile and productions of my company. i'm new to this so bear with me. i did not do this to promote or sell any product. we are one of the oldest production companies in vancouver and there is a historical point to our entry. in fact, none of our programs are even available for sale.

how can i rectify the perception that this article is meant to promote a product.

thank you in advance,

Please read Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and WP:COI. You shouldn't be creating or editing articles related to you due to a conflict of interest. elektrikSHOOS 03:26, 5 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The best place to start is to look for reliable sources, such as newspapers, that mention your company in a significant way. It's pretty easy for anyone to say that they/their company is important, but unless other people think so as well, then its not really something we can add on Wikipedia. Also, it's not generally allowable for you to edit an article that is about you, or who you work for, but it's perfectly fine to make suggestions on the talk page and allow other editors to make the changes. Steven Zhang The clock is ticking.... 03:29, 5 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Both of the above replies are right. Also, any article on your company will need verifiable references from reliable sources.   — Jeff G.  ツ 03:31, 5 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ed Martin talk page

I had accidentally attached a hang on to the talk page instead of main page and was given a message to deleate it. I went on and did that as I was asked. there was no other information on the talk page. I'm not sure how I can "restore" it when i was asked to delete it? -Raszoo —Preceding unsigned comment added by Raszoo (talk • contribs) 18:06, 5 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I fixed it for you in these edits. You can "restore" using the "undo" feature accessed from the "page history".   — Jeff G.  ツ 18:11, 5 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Honda NSR125

You claim my editing to be dubious as I was the originally writer of the article, you revert back to incorrect details, I have built an NSR125 from scratch, currently own 2 on top of other bikes, have de-restricted 10 plus nsr's and I am a qualified mechanical engineer.

I, along with a friend have compilied much information regarding these bikes over the years as they are one of the few which so many regional differences in one continent and would appreciate if you claim my editing to be dubious you at least put correct information.

RE: Georgia

RE: this, I have since added a reference in support of the content. Yet, it is ironic that you reverted to a version that was even more dubious and also unsourced, not to mention inaccurate, redundant (with the country's location being expanded upon in the next sentence), and not derived through consensus (as it was added by someone in Georgia who clearly has an opinion on the country's inclusion in Europe above all). Perhaps you should be more discriminating in what you blindly revert to, or don't bother. 76.68.80.199 (talk) 02:13, 6 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sockpuppet Notice

I am not abusively using accounts, I created another alt account, シ because I lost the password to my other, QwertyQwerpus. I then redirected their userpages and talkpages to mine so that people would leave me messages at my main account's talk page. ~ Qwerp QT C ✄ ⋮ 04:52, 6 August 2010 (UTC) [reply]

So now you have three accounts? Why not try recovering the password for your first account?   — Jeff G.  ツ 04:54, 6 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I also lost the password for the email I registered with it when I lost my alt acc's password - I was changing the settings of my web browser and decided to clear the cache, history, private data, ect. but then it wouldn't autofill my wikipedia login info anymore. Fortunately, I wrote this account's password down so I then went to register a new alt with the same password, I apologize if it seemed as if I was sockpuppeting. ~ Qwerp QT C ✄ ⋮ 05:06, 6 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Insertion of Logo's

Thank you for alerting me to guidance regarding logo's within the main body of text. I had not considered any possible legal issues. I have now stopped. However, I did not notice your edits or messages until I had changed the first few West Ham United squad players. This has resulted in a Level 2 warning - perhaps due to 'vandalism'?. I am not familiar with the warnings system on wikipedia, could you please explain, as this was an innocent mistake on my part for someone new to the website. Cheers! citythepillar —Preceding unsigned comment added by Citythepillar (talk • contribs) 06:42, 6 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have reverted those warnings. Thank you for heeding the guidance.   — Jeff G.  ツ 06:46, 6 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Jeff, I have found other examples of users displaying logo's on wikipedia, such as here: Paolo Di Canio. Should I revert the users edits or leave that sort of thing for admin? Citythepillar (talk) 09:52, 10 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Beans On Toast

Hi Jeff, sorry to keep bothering you!

Thank you for directing me to the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, and the guidelines for musical groups in particular, regarding the pages I created for Beans On Toast and Handshake (band). After reading the guidelines, I agree that the page for Handshake should be deleted.

However, I created the Beans On Toast page following an article I read in the New Musical Express (better known as the NME), a popular music magazine in the United Kingdom that has been published weekly since March 1952. I am aware of other published articles regarding his notability, both online and in print. Can I therefore ask the following questions: 1) How does one reference a magazine/newspaper article? 2) I am away this weekend, will the page be deleted if I am unable to locate references until next week? 3) I have just found a previous article regarding Beans On Toast by another user, User:Zakistan/Beans on toast (Musician). Should I attempt to combine both articles?

Thanks again, Citythepillar (talk) 07:19, 6 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

For Handshake, please add {{db-author}} to it (without "tl|"). For Beans On Toast, citation templates can be found at WP:CITATION, I have userfied it to User:Citythepillar/Beans On Toast, and yes you should try to combine them. You're welcome.   — Jeff G.  ツ 07:28, 6 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Best of luck to you. elektrikSHOOS 03:23, 7 August 2010 (UTC) [reply]

Jeff, my honest advice at this moment would be to wait. Without meaning you any disrespect, I think it would be unwise to go though with an RfA right now. I'd advise you to leave it a few months and take things a bit slower. I think you're a little too hasty and that will count against you at RfA and is not something to be desired in an admin. Of course, you can totally disregard my advice, but I think highly enough of you to offer it even if you do. Best, HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 03:50, 7 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you both. I appreciate the attempt, but I'd like to postpone this nomination, as I was not entirely prepared for it, I have some things going on in RL that will reduce my time online in the coming weeks, and I am currently running for Steward on the Test Wiki. Please note that I am also a Community Relations Member there (which supercedes Oversighter), and my Helper status there supercedes Bureaucrat. In the meantime, more comments at User:Jeff G./Coaching and User:Jeff G./Admin coaching and their talk pages would certainly be welcome. Thank you.   — Jeff G.  ツ 04:12, 7 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
No problem, it was just a nom. Good luck on your hopeful Stewardship! elektrikSHOOS 06:24, 7 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

World Team vs Kasparov

Hi,

Thanks for the advice but everything I said can be verified with the same references as are cited in the story. The links given in the reference section stopped working weeks after the game. If you reduced the story to what can be verified by real sources there would be no story left. Even the books cited are nothing but the authors opinions, no chess book is properly cited and no claim made by any of them can be independently verified with a source that would be accepted in science, for instance. There are simply no real records of what was said on the boards.

5.^ a b COMPLETE COMMENTARY BY MOVE MSN.com 6.^ Today's Move, 10-14 MSN.com 7.^ Today's Move, 10-14 MSN.com

They were kept on a server in Austrailia for about a year (http://www.maths.uq.edu.au/~rwb/kas/76220.txt) and then they too were gone. I was there and made major contributions to the game. I am simply trying to turn the story from the NPOV that people complained about in the notes to a more objective story of what happened. I would like to have a refernce for Kasparov admitting he cheated by readind the board, but it is common knowledge in the chess world and I confirmed it with Mig Greengard, an employee of Kasparov's. He could be listed as a source but Kasparov went on the record with his quote about needed an edge. I put the databases I used in the explanation of the true theory of this line it seemed redundant to put them in the references with this level of citation. The story of the theory previously was unverified and false nonsense about the move being so great it caused the line to disappear from chess. In fact more than 100 people have played like Kasparov while 28 played like the WT with only 5 games since 2001 and none since 2008. I did add one of the only remaining true news sources for the game http://www.chess.co.uk/twic/twic258.html for the voting scandal but I don't know why a [1] appears in the 6th refernce. I think there is little doubt I removes sheer conjecture and steered the article into a more neutral and truthful version of events. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.23.89.145 (talk) 04:45, 7 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Found the reference !! Kaspy vs world

http://webspace.webring.com/people/gb/bmcc333/outline.html#Kasparov vs the World

In his chat room interview World champion Kasparov made a stunningly honest disclosure he admitted reading the World team strategy board explaining "Host Chris_MSNBC says: Did you come frequently read our comments in the BBS? Host Garry_Kasparov says: Of course I used it to my advantage to look around and follow the discussion on MSN.COM about the game" !! He also gave the team credit for a game at the highest level: " I think that the world deserves to make a draw..." —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.23.89.145 (talk) 04:58, 7 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for leaving a note in the right spot

People are vandalizing my user page, vandals should be blocked. Reverting vandalism is not even considered 1RR. If you want to ban boxes, then change the policy. It is legal to do. Besides, just ask me nicely and in a few days, I might very well grant your wish. Try to break down the door and throw tear gas in the window and anyone would fight back. Thank you, Jeff, for leaving a note rather than messing with my talk page. RIPGC (talk) 04:01, 8 August 2010 (UTC) Also, Jeff, please consider notify Elektrik Shoos , Beyond my Ken, and HalfShadow with the same warning about other's (my) edits, i.e. user box. Thank you. RIPGC (talk) 04:04, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sigh. Look at the discussion at WP:AN/I, and the appeal he made to Jimbo. elektrikSHOOS 04:44, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm about to leave a note w/ the user, but he's allowed to revert as many times on his talk page as he likes and suggesting that you are undertaking the action "drama mongering" is not a personal attack in any broad sense. It may be indecorous and obnoxious, but it isn't a personal attack. Protonk (talk) 04:54, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Not only that, but I've re-worded it. Even with nobody asking. If you want something, ask nicely. That box could have been removed just by asking nicely.

Anyway, please do not edit on my talk page for at least 72 hours. I get upset when you do. Maybe it is cultural, but somehow it is very upsetting. Thank you. RIPGC (talk) 04:59, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ethanol fuel

Thanks for helping me on Ethanol fuel. Any idea if that mincing in any way was done by Wikipedia and not something wrong with my PC? 189.27.46.185 (talk) 04:42, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It's tough to tell. At least you didn't mince this page. :)   — Jeff G.  ツ 04:43, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

At least not yet =). Have you heard of that happening before? 189.27.46.185 (talk) 04:45, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It can happen in cases where there is lots of radio interference causing the wireless mouse to move around and wireless keyboard to appear to type things, and similarly causing spurious signals in mouse and keyboard wiring. The typical symptom on the screen has been described as "the cursor going nuts" or "moving by itself". Has that been happening on your PC?   — Jeff G.  ツ 04:50, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Well, both my mouse and keyboard are wired, but the Wi-Fi router is close to their wires. They haven't moved or done anything by themselves lately. The weird thing is that what's changed are specific words, it seems intentional. I thought maybe it could be some sort of communications failure, data getting corrupt along the way and then the characters arrive shifted. Or maybe some sort of malware, just randomly messing up Wiki edits. Never seen it happen in other sites, and it happened when editing on Firefox and Chrome. 189.27.46.185 (talk) 11:18, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps it was something between your PC and Wikipedia's reverse proxies.   — Jeff G.  ツ 22:56, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

TNA Hardcore Justice

I noticed you reverted the addition of Beulah McGillicutty as being with Tommy Dreamer at the event. Technically, it was true. I am watching the PPV as we speak and she was indeed there. She didn't accompany him to ringside but did end up in the ring, though they acknowledged her by her real name Trisa. Tommy's wife Trisa was indeed Beulah McGillicutty in ECW. So I wouldn't call it dubious, but since she didn't actually come to the ring with him perhaps she doesn't get a "with" mention. Shootmaster 44 (talk) 02:41, 9 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
