Description
English: Mahathir Mohamad was born in 1925 in Alor Setar, Kedah. He pursued medical studies at King Edward VII College of Medicine in Singapore and worked as a doctor before entering politics. Joining the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO), he was first elected as a Member of Parliament in 1964. After briefly leaving politics, he returned and became Malaysia’s fourth Prime Minister in 1981, serving until 2003. He played a key role in Malaysia’s industrialization and economic growth by promoting large-scale infrastructure projects, strengthening the manufacturing sector, and implementing policies like Vision 2020 to drive the nation toward developed status. In 2018, he made a historic comeback as the seventh Prime Minister at the age of 92, becoming the world’s oldest elected leader.
