On November 12, 2025, during a meeting FISU Executive Committee, it was announced that the organization had received a only formal bid project made from Changchun, China, to host the 2027 FISU World University Games Winter. The proposal was officially submitted by the China Student Sports Federation.
At that meeting, the Executive Committee authorized the FISU Steering Committee to proceed with the technical evaluation of the application. According to the decision, the Steering Committee would conduct the final visit scheduled for that month and, if all conditions and requirements were met,the event could be awarded to the chinese city
FISU did not disclose, at that time, any other formally submitted applications for the event, although there had been preliminary expressions of interest from other cities months earlier. But,the chinese one was the only formal proposol. Following the evaluation and authorized procedure, the Steering Committee confirmed the awarding of the 2027 edition to the city of Changchun on November 26, 2025.[7][8]
The Games
Sports
95 medal events in 12 sports are planned to be held during the Games, with the 10 compulsory sports, including the addition of ski orienteering to the list of compulsory sports. The organizers also chose ski mountaineering and speed skating as optional sports for this edition. Due to speed skating falling under a special sport status (meaning it does not count as either a required or optional sport), the organizers were allowed to add one more optional sport.[9]
