Ben DawkinsAussie Trump – He now goes by "Aussie Trump". I am also partial to renaming to Austin Trump, his new legal name. Steelkamp (talk) 04:04, 6 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Move - for better or worse, it's going to be the name people call him. Aussie Trump over Austin Trump on the basis of WP:COMMONNAME recentlyryan RecentlyRyan 17:30, 6 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Wait: no evidence rn that it's WP:COMMONNAME, wait to see what media outlets et al say and how they report on him LivelyRatification (talk) 19:28, 6 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Media outlets right now are calling him "Aussie Trump", "Austin Trump" and "Mr Trump". See [1], [2], [3], [4]. Steelkamp (talk) 04:18, 7 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
That may be so but that may change. We ought to wait and see.
FropFrop (talk) 07:21, 7 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
No to Aussie Trump, yes to 'Austin Trump' - Austin Trump is his legal name, Aussie Trump may be a short fad that the media and public stop referring to him as.
FropFrop (talk) 07:23, 7 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Not yet. The RSs are using his new name, but only because he has - by his own admission - changed his name as "a political protest", coming up to an election. The news coverage is about his name change - it is not coverage of him as a person (ie "the article topic", per WP:NAMECHANGES), using his new name. Let's at least wait until the RSs talk about him as a person - independently of his name change - with the new name. If nothing else, waiting a while will give us a better idea as to whether it should be "Austin" or "Aussie" - my money is on the formal "Austin", not the nickname. Oppose: Let's see if it stands the test of time. Subject matter is a loose unit and post the election could change it again. Plenty of people have changed their name by deed poll for a specific event, only to revert once the change no longer serves a purpose. Fynelyne (talk) 06:02, 8 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Wait: As mentioned above, Trump has mentioned that this is an act of political protest, although I suspect it's so he appears on the docket at the state election as Trump and will be undo afterwards. Temporarily changing your name for an election ballot has been done in Australia in the past - here's one from 2016 where a man changed his name by deed poll to "Clean Up Australian Politics". - ysr elle! 08:10, 9 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Ben DawkinsAussie Trump – Aussie Trump appears to be the primary name in the admittedly small number of sources that don't directly address the name change. A February 2025 article from ABC News primarily uses the name Aussie Trump with reference to the name change, an April 2025 article from ABC News refers only to Aussie Trump, and in regards to recent local council coverage, the Harvey-Waroona Reporter says "Aussie Trump, formerly Ben Dawkins", WAtoday uses "“Aussie” Trump, the ousted upper house MP formerly known as Ben Letts Dawkins" (and also refers to the full name of "Austin “Aussie” Trump"), ABC News uses "Aussie Trump, who was formerly known as Ben Dawkins", and the Sydney Morning Herald uses ""Aussie Trump"". While some sources use Aussie in quotes, I believe WP:NAMECHANGES applies here, as the primary name in reliable sources has become Aussie Trump, rather than Ben Dawkins or Austin Trump. Support. The name has clearly stuck around, and is not just a one off thing for the March state election. Steelkamp (talk) 06:21, 19 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Support Agree with comments from both @LivelyRatification and @Steelkamp, it is definitely used as his common name at this point Totallynotarandomalt69 (talk) 14:07, 19 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Support. His parliamentary profile on the WA Parliament website already lists his name as Aussie Trump. Marcnut1996 (talk) 00:59, 21 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
