Welcome!

Hello, Bloodshot20! Welcome to Wikipedia! It appears that you are here to participate in a class project. If you haven't done so already, we highly encourage you to go through our training page that's specifically created and catered for students such as yourself:
If you need help, check out Wikipedia's page for questions. You can also ask me by visiting my user talk page and leaving a message, or you can ask your question on this page by editing it and placing {{Help me}} before your question. Please make sure that you sign your messages on discussion pages, which is done by entering four tildes (~~~~) at the very end of it; this will automatically insert your username and the date. I also highly recommend that you review the advice for students page.
Before you create an article, make sure that you understand what kind of articles are accepted here. Remember: Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, and while many topics are encyclopedic, some things are not.
Your instructor or professor may wish to set up a course page, and if your class doesn't already have one, please tell your instructor about creating one. It is highly recommended that you place this text: {{Educational assignment}} on the talk page of any articles you are working on as part of your Wikipedia-related course assignment. This will let other editors know that the article is a subject of an educational assignment as well as aid your communication with them.

I've noticed a lot of new editors recently working on fish-related articles. Are you part of some sort of large class project? :Jay8g [V•T•E] 05:22, 8 November 2024 (UTC)
- Yes, the class somewhat large, something like 100 people. It's a fish biology and conservation class at UC Davis. Each of us picked a fish that we could add a decent bit (2 pages minimum) of information to. I looked over the Wikipedia editing rules and stuff, but I'm gonna review them so my hard work doesn't get reverted. Bloodshot20 (talk) 05:35, 8 November 2024 (UTC)

Citing IUCN conservation status
Hi Bloodshot20!
Welcome to Wikipedia. I see you are doing great work, especially on fish articles.
However, most of your articles are ending up with maintenance errors, and are ending up in Category:Cite IUCN maint
There is a quick fix, which is also a great time saver: Use {{make cite iucn}} - simply copy the citation text from the IUCN Red List (there is a button on their site that'll do that for you) and paste it in after the pipe | character
See:Template:Make cite IUCN if you need more info
Sometime later, a bot will complete the process for you, with the correct syntax
Happy editing! Big Blue Cray(fish) Twins (talk) 10:50, 9 January 2025 (UTC)
- That's unfortunate, I'll try and see if I can fix some of the issues. I was just copy/pasting the citation formatting from other articles and replacing the info inside. I wasn't aware this was creating errors, as it doesn't display an error on the article itself (to my knowledge). Bloodshot20 (talk) 11:53, 9 January 2025 (UTC)
- Yes, you're right. It doesn't display an error on the article itself, but they do go into the Maintenance category page

- Hello again, @Bloodshot20:.
- I've noticed you seem to have stopped editing, and I hope I am not the cause of that, after giving the above advice!!
- You were doing really great work, building the encyclopedia. Indeed, your expansion of Anableps anableps probably qualifies for Good Article status. If I was you, I would nominate it!
- Keep up the good work!
- Big Blue Cray(fish) Twins (talk) 09:53, 25 January 2025 (UTC)
- Oh wow thanks! I've just been busy with school recently so I haven't had much time to edit. I do appreciate the advice though, it's definitely a lot faster than manually adding all the conservation info haha. I'll look into the nomination if you think that's a good idea. Class project question
Sorry to bother you about this, but it's nice to see a student editor remain active! I know last year you said were in a class that had a project related to fish articles on Wikipedia. Do you know if that class is running again this year? I've run into a similar influx of new editors working on fish articles, and this year they're uploading a bunch of copyright violations to Commons. Jay8g [V•T•E] 08:51, 17 November 2025 (UTC)
- @Jay8g That's unfortunate. At this point I have graduated, but I do know at least one person taking the class right now. As far as I understand, the class is not taught by the same professor consistently, so I'm not entirely sure what's going on (though I wouldn't be surprised if the same thing is happening again). I've asked my friend for more info, so I'll update you if I find out more. Bloodshot20 (talk) 00:40, 18 November 2025 (UTC)
