This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to Cricket. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.
- Adding a new AfD discussion
- Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
- and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
- You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Cricket|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
- There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
- Removing a closed AfD discussion
- Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
- Other types of discussions
- You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Cricket. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.
- Further information
- For further information see Wikipedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.
This list is also part of the larger list of deletion debates related to Sports.

- The last AfD was a procedural close because the tournament had not yet happened, but was happening soon. Now it has happened, we can assess the notability appropriately. The last AfD closure even says that a new AfD after the event has happened is fine. Joseph2302 (talk) 08:56, 8 March 2025 (UTC)

An event which has never occurred before cannot be labelled routine
This is simply untrue- please read WP:ROUTINE. Joseph2302 (talk) 22:16, 8 March 2025 (UTC)- I have. A national level sporting competition which has never occurred before cannot be called routine. Regards, Goldsztajn (talk) 00:50, 9 March 2025 (UTC)

*Delete Fails WP:SPORTSEVENT. WP:NOTINHERITED applies to people not sports events. LibStar (talk) 07:43, 7 March 2025 (UTC)
- Keep - I believe it passes the WP:SPORTSEVENT definition of "games should be extraordinary and have a lasting impact on the sport; news coverage should be extensive". It is one of just four Test matches (out of 2580) in which a team has followed on and won. Australia have
neverrarely enforced the follow on since and most sides avoid it now which shows it's lasting impact. The match has historic significance and is still referred to years later (a, b, c, d, e) which is not typical of any Test match and goes well beyond routine coverage. JP (Talk) 13:35, 7 March 2025 (UTC) - Keep change vote to keep based on Jpeeeling's argument above. As a side point, Australia did the rare thing and enforced follow on recently against Sri Lanka. [1] LibStar (talk) 13:50, 7 March 2025 (UTC)
- Keep not sure what sort of BEFORE search you did, but this game is constantly referred to in ongoing coverage of other games. Any search of combinations of Kolkata Australia India Follow on finds many examples. The-Pope (talk) 02:20, 8 March 2025 (UTC)
- Keep 2000-01 series game has long lasting substantial coverage (albeit not with this article name, but searching e.g. "India win after following on". 2007-08 series is less notable but these nominations should not be bundled together, as they're not just the same. Joseph2302 (talk) 09:00, 8 March 2025 (UTC)

- Keep, from a quick read clear that ACA is notable on its own with plenty of coverage. It could be noted that Andhra Pradesh has 49 million inhabitants. That's 10 million more than California. As the article outlines, it is not just a governing body, but also the organizer of a state-level team for national competion and has its own Andhra Premier League (apparently having 2.5-3 million viewers, https://www.deccanchronicle.com/sports/cricket/andhra-premier-league-season-3-set-to-kick-off-894310). --Soman (talk) 20:09, 5 March 2025 (UTC)

- Delete. Fails to meet WP:NSPORT. No significant coverage about the subject and career in multiple published non-trivial secondary sources that are reliable, intellectually independent, and independent of the subject. RangersRus (talk) 15:58, 3 March 2025 (UTC)
- Comment The best I found was this [7] and this [8] Also a few sentences here [9] in New Indian Express. These more or less are all written from the single event of him being signed to play for Punjab Kings at the Indian Premier League auction. [10] He may have the potential to get significant coverage soon as the 2025 Indian Premier League starts in just a few weeks, so draftify might be an option here if significant coverage and BLP1E concerns can't be addressed at the moment?Canary757 (talk) 14:37, 5 March 2025 (UTC)
- Those sources are not enough to pass notability as they are not significant coverage and we cannot keep an article based on assumption that the subject might get significant coverage by participating in an event in the future. Better to delete and in future if the subject gets significant coverage to pass WP:GNG, and WP:NSPORT, then page can be recreated. RangersRus (talk) 21:28, 5 March 2025 (UTC)

- Comment: A Google Search came up with him being involved in a scandal in 2014 here, on the page of a newspaper, the Sri Lanka Guardian, with a Wikipedia article. This doesn't connect to his playing career, of course; we'll, perhaps unfortunately, have to use ESPNcricinfo and CricketArchive for those, like is the case with a lot of Sri Lankan cricketers of that vintage. One source is still better than none...and if someone at WP:CRIC knows Tamil, maybe other sources can show themselves. I don't have a vote either way (he has enough matches for me not to support but not enough matches for me to oppose), but I wanted to point out I had found something about him.
