You quoted non-reliable sources. He want to perform pilgramage (Hajj) and wants to go to Mecca, where only Muslims are allowed to go by law. Hence, I don't find a reason to believe that he is not Muslim. He might belong to Nation of Islam at most, but not beyond that. I've not read any news from any reliable source that would deny that.
