Arab colonisation
Somalia's colonial history is seriously incomplete here. The first colonization that Somalia underwent was the Arab one. In fact, the first colonizers of East Africa were some Shiite refugees from Oman in the 8th century, followed in the 9th century by Orthodox Sunnis from Shiraz, on the Persian shore of the same gulf. 91.80.67.32 (talk) 04:05, 12 November 2024 (UTC)
- This is completely false, the somalis were never ever recorded being colonized by the omanis, considering the omanis were forced to pay tax to multiple somali sultanates such as the hobyo sultanate, merjerteen sultanate, and the imamate of hiraab 75.118.24.24 (talk) 07:38, 23 January 2025 (UTC)
Excessive list of past kingdoms in infobox
The infobox of this page lists various Somali kingdoms, but none are legal predecessor of the current state. Some of the kingdoms even existed simultaneously.
Perhaps starting with independence of Somalia would be more appropriate, much like India, Iraq and Malaysia. That would also make navigating the page easier. OwlCityzen (talk) 11:21, 22 November 2024 (UTC)
No Map Key
The globe map at the top of the page has two different shades of green without specifying what they mean. I assume that it's Somaliland but this still needs a key. Sushidude21! (talk) 00:23, 14 December 2024 (UTC)

Official languages
Mahmood2028 has recently changed the infobox so that instead of listing Somali and Arabic as official languages, Arabic is now listed under "Other language". The sources cited for this are the CIA World Factbook, which lists both Somali and Arabic as official, and the provisional constitution of 2012, which states:
Article 5. Official Languages
The official language of the Federal Republic of Somalia is Somali (Maay and Maxaa-tiri), and Arabic is the second language.
This is a bit ambiguous. "Official Languages" (plural) suggests that both are official and Arabic is listed under this heading, but then it's described as the second (official?) language and Somali is described as the official language (singular). In this situation, I'd prefer to rely on secondary sources' interpretation of the constitution rather than the constitution itself. What do others think? Cordless Larry (talk) 08:31, 26 February 2025 (UTC)
- I read that as a first official language and a second official language. The idea that there is a binary where languages are official or not is not always correct, and there are other formal designations languages are given every now and the, so I agree that for the purposes of the very simple infoboxes we should rely on secondary interpretations that look for similar levels of simplicity. - We had the same discussion in Talk:Languages of Somalia. The official Somali ministry of foreign affairs web page mentions both as official languages:
- "The official languages are Somali and Arabic."

- In addition, Arabic is not an official language in Somalia, but a second language as stated in the constitution.
