  • He was reported to have played "brilliantly" by The Birmingham News and in 1925, he also started playing punter. the two phrases in this sentence aren't connected to each other. Consider rewriting to split them up.
  • Prior to coaching Howard's freshman football team, the "Bullpups", in 1927, he attended --> In 1927, prior to coaching Howard's freshman football team (the "Bullpups"), he attended
  • He was buried in his hometown of Jasper, Alabama., you can drop "Alabama" since you mentioned this already
