Murders of Alison Parker and Adam WardKillings of Alison Parker and Adam Ward – Per other homicide-related articles: the perpetrator died by suicide and the case was never brought to trial, so there was no murder conviction. Ixfd64 (talk) 04:37, 21 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose when the perpetrator is dead we can call it murder provided that is the common name. DEATHS is trumped by common name when BLPCRIME is not an issue. Otherwise something like the Columbine school shootings we can't call murder or Jack the Ripper a serial murderer which is obviously absurd. PARAKANYAA (talk) 07:55, 22 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I noticed other articles about murder-suicides are typically named "killing of..." instead of "murder of..." For example, the proposal to rename 2014 killings of NYPD officers to 2014 murders of NYPD officers did not reach consensus. We should pick one convention and stick with it for the sake of consistency. Ixfd64 (talk) 00:34, 23 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
It didn't achieve consensus because it was part of a group RM with many different cases with many different considerations, and was also started by the LTA sock who plagues this topic area and does tons of time waster moves. If it was just this one it probably would have worked.
And any attempt to achieve absolute consistency in a topic as difficult as murder is not going to work. Every case is going to be different, which is why people voted against the mass RM. PARAKANYAA (talk) 02:31, 23 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
