I don't think we need a citation for "May Day (on May 1) is not a public holiday, but is nevertheless often granted as a holiday by many companies." It's consistent with all other articles containing Japanese text, which also provide a transliteration for the aid of people who don't know the Japanese scripts (or have browsers that don't display them). May Day is celebrated in many parts of Japan, especially by trade unionists and leftists. This is acknowledged on other wikipedia pages (e.g. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Labor_Thanksgiving_Day).
