Hello. I'm interested in attempting to put together an edit-a-thon for Hawaiian cultural topics something during the Makahiki festival perhaps around the month of November. The hope is that our lackluster coverage of Hawaiian mythology could be improved with help from the Bishop Museum, Hawaii Pacific University, and the Honolulu public library. I am in the process of making initial contacts with these organizations as well as Wikimedia DC's GLAM project. If this sounds like something you might be interested in participating in, or perhaps helping to coordinate, could you please add your name to 2014 Makahiki Edit-a-thon?--v/r - TP 21:24, 9 June 2014 (UTC) |

*Dear TParis, thank you for the invitation; I am honored. Unfortunately, for the time being, I have put my encyclopedic aspirations behind me in order to focus on building a career as a composer. I might return to Wikipedia in the future. Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Banza nihoa.jpg}
Thank you for uploading Image:Banza nihoa.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check:
- That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
- That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.
Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. Image copyright problem with Image:Nihoa Fan Palm.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Nihoa Fan Palm.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check
- That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
- That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Read This Book: On My Honor: Why the American Values of the Boy Scouts are Worth Fighting For
It was written by current Texas Governor Rick Perry and puplished in Febuary of 2008. He is currently an Eagle Scout and avid supporter of the organization. You can find it at [1]. If you want, I'll even lend you mine if you promise you'll read it. Here's an excerpt from a recent interview he had with the New York Times to get you interested[1]:
It’s a shame the Scouts are alienating so many American kids when they could be a force for equality and civic unity. What about the Boy Scout merit badges? Do they ever update them?
Oh, yes, absolutely. I was looking at a young man’s sash the other day, and he had merit badges on there I didn’t know.
I was just looking at the hundred-plus merit badges online and was surprised that the Boy Scouts haven’t introduced more relevant projects than coin collecting.
They’ve done that. They’ve reached out and included things like the environmental-science badge.
I know they have a dog-care merit badge, but why not a child-care badge?
Why not teach scouts how to change a baby’s diaper and help out moms? I don’t have a problem with that.
How about a merit badge in vegetarianism?
It’s out there. It’s your choice. We raise a lot of vegetables down here in Texas. We like for people to eat vegetables.
And instead of a shotgun-shooting merit badge, how about a gun-control badge?
Now you’ve stepped across the line. Remember, you are talking to a Texan.
If you don't agree with the book (which you proably won't) you will definitely find it hillarious. Either way, as you have taught me, it is always good to examine an issue from another perspective that opposes the one you agree with. Talk to you soon. --Mrzubrow (talk) 23:42, 2 October 2008 (UTC)
(P.S. Just don't ask what cause the proceeds go to- you don't wanna know. Let's just say the book supports the legal defense of a certain organization and leave it at that...)

premature closure of Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Burning Valley (novel)
You may want to familiarize yourself with WP:SPEEDYKEEP. An early non-admin close is only appropriate in a very specific set of circumstances, which were not at all met at this AfD. Beeblebrox (talk) 19:11, 24 March 2009 (UTC)

- I was just popping in here to speak to you about another article that I think you may have closed a bit early. I would just ask you to give the matter serious thought and if there is any dissent whatever, don't SNOW close things. ++Lar: t/c 04:34, 25 March 2009 (UTC)

- Policy mistake on my part, actually, for nominating it in the first place. Sorry about that. Just one question, however: the AFD box on the article page is still there. Should I remove that or wait for an admin?Spring12 (talk) 00:10, 26 March 2009 (UTC)
- Well, remember, policies aren't rock-hard, they just represent current consensus. Currently the consensus is that places are notable, and the more you do AfD, the more you get a feel for which articles tend to stay and which go. Of course, you can make your own opinion about that as well. Yeah, you can just remove the box yourself. I should have, but I guess I overlooked it. SeanMD80talk | contribs 01:46, 26 March 2009 (UTC)

File source problem with File:Makepuu point light.gif

Thank you for uploading File:Makepuu point light.gif. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of that website's terms of use of its content. However, if the copyright holder is a party unaffiliated from the website's publisher, that copyright should also be acknowledged.
If you have uploaded other files, consider verifying that you have specified sources for those files as well. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged per Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion, F4. If the image is copyrighted and non-free, the image will be deleted 48 hours after 16:19, 25 July 2010 (UTC) per speedy deletion criterion F7. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 16:19, 25 July 2010 (UTC)

Our next Wikipedia NYC Meetup is this weekend on Saturday Dec 4 at Brooklyn Museum during their awesome First Saturdays program, starting at 5 PM.
A particular highlight for the wiki crowd will be 'Seductive Subversion: Women Pop Artists, 1958–1968', and the accompanying "WikiPop" project, with specially-created Wikipedia articles on the artists displayed on iPads in the gallery.

Teaching with Wikipedia Workshop at CMU (Aug 15)
Since you are one of the editors in the Category:Wikipedians by alma mater: Carnegie Mellon University, I'd like to invite you to the Teaching with Wikipedia Workshop that will take place at CMU on Aug 15 (this workshop is open to general public, and is a joint imitative of CMU and Pitt). There will be another workshop held at Pitt in the Fall as well. It will cover how to include Wikipedia in one's course (WP:SUP) and also how to become a Wikipedia:Campus Ambassadors. Pennsylvania has currently only one ambassador (myself) and it would be great if we could recruit at least several more. Ambassadors help course instructors, showing them how Wikipedia works, and interact with students. Many current ambassadors come from the body of students, faculty and university staff; it is a fun adventure, and adds to one resume/CV, to boot :) If it sounds interesting, feel free to ask me any questions, or to come to the workshop. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 20:18, 9 August 2011 (UTC)

Re: Robert Page
Amazingly, I actually have a recording of his - the Missa Mysteriorum by Nancy Galbraith, which was a piece I sang in a choir in college. What I don't have, though, are any books or articles mentioning him. Is he in the New Grove? I don't have it on hand... Chubbles (talk) 13:25, 17 December 2011 (UTC)
- I looked him up on Grove Online and he doesn't seem to be listed. However you can find a bio here: [2]. SeanMD80talk | contribs 20:09, 17 December 2011 (UTC)
You are invited to the National Archives ExtravaSCANza, taking place every day next week from January 4–7, Wednesday to Saturday, in College Park, Maryland (Washington, DC metro area). Come help me cap off my stint as Wikipedian in Residence at the National Archives with one last success!
This will be a casual working event in which Wikipedians are getting together to scan interesting documents at the National Archives related to a different theme each day—currently: spaceflight, women's suffrage, Chile, and battleships—for use on Wikipedia/Wikimedia Commons. The event is being held on multiple days, and in the evenings and weekend, so that as many locals and out-of-towners from nearby regions1 as possible can come. Please join us! Dominic·t 01:36, 30 December 2011 (UTC) 1 Wikipedians from DC, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Newark, New York City, and Pittsburgh have been invited. |

Hawaii edit-a-thon!
If this sounds like something you might be interested in participating in, or perhaps helping to coordinate, could you please add your name to 2014 Makahiki Edit-a-thon?--v/r - TP 21:24, 9 June 2014 (UTC)
- Dear TParis, thank you for the invitation; I am honored. Unfortunately, for the time being, I have put my encyclopedic aspirations behind me in order to focus on building a career as a composer. I might return to Wikipedia in the future. Many thanks, --SeanMD80talk | contribs 19:00, 16 June 2014 (UTC)
