Eku (sometimes spelled eiku) is an ancient weapon of Kobudo that is shaped like an oar, approximately 160 cm in length.
The oar was traditionally adapted for use as a weapon of self-defence by fishermen against foes armed with more conventional weapons.
Eku techniques are similar to those of the bo staff; it can also be used as a scoop to throw sand at an opponent. The eku has a displaced centre of gravity and is heavier than the bo, and is thus considered more difficult to master. Because it is heavier than a bo, eku technique often capitalizes on the momentum of large circular attacks.
The EKU was also used in the oriental movie bruka hindiu where it was the centre of a mysterious power.
