This should be cleaned up with due regard to [[Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not]], under "Instruction Manuals". The text of this article seems to branch towards a "how to rank high on google" instruction manual.[[User:71.110.129.80|71.110.129.80]] 09:52, 20 March 2006 (UTC) |

The company Link Exchange?
Anyone remember the company Link Exchange, banners for websites would be distributed etc...I think their website redirects to some Microsoft small business deal now, anyone know what happened with that? --Fxer 20:40, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
- The banners still seem to be running. See: http://www.backupdns.com/ But clicking on the LE button takes you to MS.
- There is an article LinkExchange, but there is no description of what happened after Microsoft bought it. -- SEWilco (talk) 17:51, 5 February 2010 (UTC)
Original Google Explanation of Their Search Results
Interested in adding this a citing to the paragraph that notes google. Not quite sure the best way. http://web.archive.org/web/20000301165414/www.google.com/why_use.html 64.74.62.136 21:02, 18 January 2007 (UTC)
Article problems
I've tagged this article as unreferenced; there is not a single WP:RS cited. I have tagged it as original research; some very tendentious claims are made, almost turning this article into a search engine optimization how-to, which is something Wikipedia is not. I have tagged it for importance; one editor seems to think that only the reciprocal link "exchange" is important, but that's just one type of link list (for which there is no article). It seems obvious to me (and to many at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Adult Porn Link Lists that there's only a need for a single article on this topic. I'm going to delete the worst and most inappropriate parts of the text, and re-add a broader definition, and I hope that other editors can work with me to craft a better article. --Dhartung | Talk 06:47, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
- I took a stab at cleaning it up and removing some outright original research, but there's still room for improvement. -134.48.112.51 18:45, 12 April 2007 (UTC)
- FeldBum (talk · contribs) reverted all my edits the other day; we'll see how yours fare. We may have an article ownership problem. Thanks! --Dhartung | Talk 21:24, 12 April 2007 (UTC)
- Hey, Let's also not forget that the most Dominant usage of the phrase "Link Exchange" is an simple exchange of links between webmasters... It doesn't take a whole 'confederation' to do this! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Saulj42 (talk • contribs) 21:20, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
Distinction between link exchanges and banner exchanges
The article seems to take the position that a link exchange and a banner exchange are exactly the same thing, but that's not the case in actual practice. Does anyone think the distinction should be clarified in the article? Rray (talk) 21:31, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
- For a link exchange which uses banners, I think the distinction is that a link exchange only shows banners for members of the exchange, while a banner exchange may also sell ads to people who are not also displaying ads. A link exchange is a cooperative which only advertises its members, but a banner exchange sells its extra ads to others. -- SEWilco (talk) 17:57, 5 February 2010 (UTC)
- Some link exchanges seem to work by helping sites to link to each other, but those are more like directories and might not involve banners. -- SEWilco (talk) 19:06, 5 February 2010 (UTC)
