Mojkovac (Serbian/Montenegrin Cyrillic: Мојковац) is a town and municipality in Montenegro.

Geography

On the vast bank of the Tara River between the mountains of Bjelasica and Sinjajevina is where Mojkovac is located.

Demographics

Ethnic groups (1991 census):

  • Montenegrins (92.50%)
  • Serbs (5.17%)

  • Montenegrins (54.77%)
  • Serbs (40.88%)

History and features

Mojkovac is near the old mining inhabitance of Brskovo. Brskovo is one of the oldest mines here. During the rule of King Uroš, there was money foundry after which Mojkovac got its name. Mojkovac is famous for the Battle of Mojkovac where the Montenegrin army, in 1916, defeated the more powerful, Austro-Hungarian army. The most common thing in Mojkovac is village tourism and as the Tara River is near Mojkovac, there is also white water rafting. The Monastery of Saint George in Dobrilovina, is the most important cultural and historic monument it dates back to 1592.

Politics

On the most recent Montenegrin independence referendum, out of a total of 7,645 legimitimate voters, 6,923 (90.56%) have voted. 3,849 (56,07%) voted to keep the Union with Serbia and 3,016 (43,93%) voted for indepence of Montenegro.
