Bhagamati was a native of Chichlam (now Shahalibanda Hyderabad), India. Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah, fifth sultan of the earstwhile Qutb Shahi Dynasty married Bhagamati in the year 1589 CE and presumably remained with her until his death in 1611. Bhagamati took the name Hyder Mahal and converted to Islam in 1605 AD after which the only daughter of Muhammed Quli Qutub Shah and Bhagamati, named Hayat Baksh Begum, married his nephew Sultan Muhammed Quli. Sultan Muhammed Quli succeeded the throne soon after the death Muhammed Qulii Qutub Shah. The history of the Qutub Shahi was compiled for the period up to 1611 CE at the orders of Sultan Muhammad Qutub Shah after his succession to the Qutub Shahi throne. As per historical reference books such as "Land Marks of the Deccan" by Sri S.A.Bilgrami and others, Sultan Muhammed Qutub Shah who succeeded his father-in-law in 1611 CE, had a great dislike for his mother-in-law Bhagamati.
Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah built a city Bhaganagar in 1591 CE, to honor his love for Bhagamati, The city was built on the site of Chichlam (today known as Shahalibanda which was native village of his future wife, located 10 miles from Golconda Fort on the southern banks of Musi river.Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah|Qutb Shah renamed the city of Bhaganagar as Hyderabad after Bhagmati was conferred with the title HyderMmhal, following her conversion to Islam, at the behest of Mir Jumla Mir Muhammed Momin.
