Template:Future sport The 2007-08 Premier League season will be the sixteenth since its establishment, and is set to start in August of 2007. The fixtures (or schedule of games to be played) will be announced sometime in June of that year. Manchester United are the defending Premiership champions, having won their 9th Premiership title and 16th championship overall the previous season.
As of May 7 2007, seventeen teams are guaranteed to be playing in the Premier League in 2007/08. They are; Arsenal, Aston Villa, Birmingham City, Blackburn Rovers, Bolton Wanderers, Chelsea, Everton, Fulham, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Middlesbrough, Newcastle United, Portsmouth, Reading, Sunderland and Tottenham Hotspur.
Of the remaining teams, three of them will be relegated. Watford were relegated following a 1-1 draw with Manchester City on April 21, 2007. Charlton Athletic will also be relegated after a 2-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur on May 7, 2007. Sheffield United, West Ham United or Wigan Athletic will be the final team to be relegated.
The three relegated teams will be replaced by three promoted teams from the Football League Championship. Both Birmingham City and Sunderland earned automatic promotion to the Premiership on April 29, 2007 following Derby County's 2-0 defeat at Crystal Palace. Derby will take part in the Playoffs, along with Southampton, West Bromwich Albion and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
