Geographia Technica is a biannual open-access peer-reviewed academic journal.[1] The journal focuses on quantitative and technical methods in the discipline of geography.[1] The editor-in-chief is Ionel Haidu of the University of Lorraine, France.
Scope
In recent years, the branch of technical geography has emerged as a major focus of the discipline.[2][3] Geographia Technica serves as an outlet for research focused on applying quantitative methods to geographic problems. These include spatial statistics, geographic information systems, remote sensing, and cartography, among others. The methods can be applied to topics in either physical or human geography.[4]
History
The journal Geographia Technica was founded in 2006.[5] Geography techniques, such as GIS and remote sensing, are increasingly becoming disciplines in their own right.[2] This journal was founded to provide an outlet specific to research with a focus on these techniques as they are applied to human or physical geography concepts. This is essential because other scientific disciplines are increasingly using spatial techniques that originate in geography. The risk is that these other disciplines will completely usurp the methods and may do so without properly understanding their underlying concepts or requirements.[2] Geographia Technica was established to address this risk by providing an outlet for methods-focused research under the umbrella of geography.[2]
