Society for Environment and Education (SEE) was founded in 2010 by Dr. Ellam Ramakrishna, He was the First President of the SEE organization. The society was established to preserve the environment , prevent its degradation. SEE is registered as a Society under Societies Registration Act 1860 and recognized as nonprofit organization (NPO) by the government of India. Society for Environment and Education (SEE) is an aided Institution by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change of India - Government of India.

As a part of Society for Environment and Education , Dr. Ramakrishna vision is to make SEE an institution of excellence that, in collaboration with others, contributes significantly to local, national, and worldwide efforts towards sustainable development through innovation, while also being at the forefront of Environmental Education and Education for Sustainable Development. His grassroots efforts to protect environment in highly polluted cities like Kolkata, Visakhapatnam , Hyderabad, Bangalore, Chennai and Mumbai in India are making a difference in the community. In January 2025, SEE launched its official new website www.seeindia.org designed to provide everyone with a significantly better user experience with improved navigation, streamlined information access, and a fresh look, making it easier than ever to find what you need programme.

SEE works with local, state, national, and international agencies, organizations, and governments in India and other nations to promote a more sustainable future. The group collaborates closely with forest departments and other bodies to create interpretive programs and facilities. SEE executes a wide range of educational programs in collaboration with many agencies via a network of over 50,000 schools & collages.

SEE has worked with partners like as state governments, foundations, and corporations on CSR initiatives in rural and urban development, waste management, biodiversity conservation, school education quality enhancement, marine protection, and other areas.

SEE has made major contributions to international ESD negotiations, in collaboration with the government. SEE has played a important role in South India for a number of UN programs, including the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (DESD - with UNESCO), the Global Environmental Facility - Small Grants Programme (GEF-SGP - with UNDP), and the Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) Programmes (with UNICEF), among others.

The objectives of this society are:

- To inculcate environment awareness in society through social and cultural activities.

- To disseminate information through mass media and publications on status and utilization of environment.

- To conduct training programmes on environment education for students and youth.

- To initiate public interest litigation against environmental degradation.

- To encourage use of alternate and renewable sources of energy for clean environment.

- To develop awareness among women and children for promotion of their health, hygiene and healthy environment.

- To take up programmes for improving urban and rural environment to achieve better quality of life.
