José Maria Garcia Maldonado (born March 24, 1979) is a Mexican priest of the Catholic Church who serves as auxiliary bishop for the Archdiocese of Chicago.

Early life

Garcia Maldonado was born March 24, 1979, in San Julián, Jalisco. He immigrated to the United States in 2001 and joined seminary for the Archdiocese of Chicago in 2002, beginning at Casa Jesus and continuing at Niles College Seminary.[1][2][3] In 2003, he entered Mundelein Seminary. On May 17, 2008, Garcia Maldonado was ordained to the priesthood.[1]

Episcopacy

Pope Francis appointed Garcia Maldonado auxiliary bishop for the Archdiocese of Chicago, assigning him the titular see of Fallaba on December 20, 2024.[1][4][5] Garcia Maldonado was consecrated as a bishop on February 26, 2025.[2]
