DescriptionWayne Gretzky helmet in HHOF (photo by Djuradj Vujcic).jpg
English: The plaque reads:
Helmet worn by Wayne Gretzky of the Los Angeles Kings on March 23, 1994 at the Great Western Forum in Inglewood, California, as "The Great One" beat goalentender Kirk McLean of the Vancouver Canucks to record career goal #802. This passed Gordie Howe's former NHL record of 801, making Gretzky the NHL's greatest all-time goal scorer. This stick was used by teammate Luc Robitaille who co-assisted on Gretzky's milestone goal. By the time Gretzky retired in 1999, he had set 61 NHL records which included the benchmark numbers set for goals (894), assist (1963) and points (2857). The Hockey Hall of Fame waived the mandatory three year waiting period and immediately inducted Gretzky, and then announced no other player would ever be accorded that honour again.
