Aftab Darvishi (born in Tehran, 21 July 1987) is an Iranian- Dutch composer.
Aftab has been awarded the " Tenso Young Composers Award 2016”
She has received other awards and honours from Netherlands, Iceland, Iran.
Aftab has worked with many well-known ensembles including San Francisco's Grammy Award-winning Kronos Quartet.
Biography
Aftab Darvishi studied Music Performance at The University of Tehran. She followed her postgraduate studies in Composing for films at Conservatorium Van Amsterdam and composition at Royal Conservatory of The Hague with Martijn Padding and Yannis Kyriakides.
Aftab has also studied Karnatic Music with Dr. Rafael Reina at the Conservatorium Van Amsterdam.
Aftab has composed over 40 works ranging from opera, choir, chamber music, music for dance, film and animation scores and installations. She has worked with ensembles such as Kronos Quartet, HERMESensemble, Orkest De Ereprijs, Riccioti ensemble, Oerknal ensemble and, Royal Ensemble.
Aftab has extensively worked with choirs such as Latvian Radio Choir, BBC singers, Chamber Choir Ireland and Helsingin Kamarikuoro.
His music was presented in festivals including Holland Festival, Lunalia festival, Operadagen Rotterdam, New music Dublin Festival, Tehran Contemporary Music Festival and Kronos festival.
In recent years, she has focused on creating unusual combinations of vocals and mixing the different musical cultures.
In October 2016, She was awarded the Prestigious " Tenso Young Composers Award 2016” for her piece “And the world stopped Lacking you..." for A Capella choir. In 2017, Aftab was commissioned by San Francisco's Grammy Award-winning Kronos Quartet to write a piece for Fifty For The Future: The Kronos Learning Repertoire. A project devoted to the most contemporary approaches to the string quartet, designed expressly for the training of students and emerging professionals. In February 2019, Aftab Premiered her Opera “Turan Dokht” in Holland festival 2019 in collaboration with World Opera Lab.
