    Notice

The article Forest cover by state or territory in Australia has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Unreferenced for almost 17 years. Tagged as Unreferenced for 15 years. No other language has a reliably sourced article from which to translate. Appears to be original research. Creator blocked as a sockpuppet.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion based on established criteria.

If the proposed deletion has already been carried out, you may request undeletion of the article at any time. Bearian (talk) 20:50, 7 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

    Odd behaviour in political articles

Could I get some more eyes on the contributions of this editor, please? Heavily active in Australian political articles, making significant edits. At the very least, adding in large quotes from dubious sources – Crikey etc. – to support infobox changes seems to serve little useful purpose. --Pete (talk) 17:57, 11 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

What wrongdoing exactly are you accusing @Wikiuser4999 of? I'm sure this user like everyone else is simply trying to improve the encyclopaedia.
If you are going to say that Crikey is a bad source to use then you should definitely discuss the issues at hand in a request for comment (RfC) at Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Perennial sources, I think you can absolutely label Crikey as a reliable source because guidelines are not contradictory to that label. Qwerty123M (talk) 03:49, 12 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I'd like more eyes on this editor. These edits are unusual, especially for a new editor. --Pete (talk) 08:43, 12 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Unusual activity is not a bad thing. It may be that this user is adding information that other editors have overlooked. More eyes on this editor sounds like a very cruel and unwarranted invasion of privacy; editors should have autonomy to make edits freely as they choose per WP:BEBOLD. You cannot strictly police every edit like this, that would not comply with Wikipedia:Ownership of content. A new user can make large edits, there is no guideline that I know of to prevent that!
Can you please mention any specific instances of wrongdoing by this user? Qwerty123M (talk) 09:17, 12 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
What makes you think I'm suggesting any wrongdoing? I didn't say anything along those lines. I removed one of the more obviously unreliable sources but I raised the question here because the behaviour was odd. I've been around Wikipedia a long time and this is something new. When something odd occurs in a political article it usually bears looking into.
If you don't want to trouble yourself, fair enough. --Pete (talk) 07:43, 18 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@Skyring, if you are going to start noticeboard discussions specifically about other editors, you should probably notify them. Ps, I've just done it for you. TarnishedPathtalk 10:23, 18 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Please add more citations to this BLP, as soon as possible. Bearian (talk) 01:24, 12 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

@Bearian: There are millions of pages on Wikipedia that need improvement. Wikipedia editors are a limited resource who generally edit what topics they are interested in. If they were interested in fixing pages with maintenance templates, those editors would be going through maintenance categories. Coming here to demand we improve whatever article you want us to do is annoying. Steelkamp (talk) 09:28, 12 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Seeing as that article has a lack of reliable sources, I have nominated it to be deleted under an Articles for Deletion (WP:AFD) discussion. Qwerty123M (talk) 09:29, 12 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't demand. I asked, please, as soon as possible. I went to a relevant WikiProject – to warn you of a known risk. I won't bother you folks anymore. Bearian (talk) 14:32, 12 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

2026 Invasion Day protest bombing attempt

Hi there, I have started Draft:2026 Invasion Day protest bombing attempt. I thought it would be good for that incident to have an article given the media attention and commentary in Australia and abroad (including New Zealand where I live). It just needs some expansion and formatting with the references. There are some articles mentioning the topic like 2026 in Australia, Terrorism in Australia and List of terrorist incidents in Australia but it currently has no central article focusing on the topic. Feel free to edit or to give feedback. Andykatib (talk) 03:04, 12 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

The destination for the draft article presently redirects to 2026 in Australia. That would require a technical move to address. Andykatib (talk) 03:05, 12 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
No worries, article has been published. Wanted to thank everyone who worked on it. Andykatib (talk) 18:07, 12 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@Andykatib Thank you. That needed a page. Late Night Coffee (talk) 06:54, 14 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

An editor has requested comments on a page about a terrorist attack in Australia

Talk:2025 Bondi Beach shooting § Islamic terrorist attack

Should the word "Islamic" be used to describe this ISIS-linked attack?

Question about cropping pics on Commons

I've just created an article about Winnie Branson. I don't think there's a separate photo of her anywhere, but this photo in Commons includes what could be cropped into a headshot. Is anyone here experienced in this kind of thing? It would be nice to have a photo of her in the infobox, but I'm not sure how to go about it. Any advice or offers to do it, please? Laterthanyouthink (talk) 08:00, 16 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

If you go to Commons:Commons:CropTool, you can install the CropTool, which is super easy to use. You can just crop the original photo using it. It gives you the option of either creating a new file or overriding the existing file. In this case, you should create a new image. Steelkamp (talk) 08:09, 16 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Unless they have the autopatroller perm they're not going to see the option to overwrite. TarnishedPathtalk 08:18, 16 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, great, thanks Steelkamp & TarnishedPath. I do have autopatrol permission, so should be able to do that. I'll get back to that tomorrow. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 09:07, 16 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@Laterthanyouthink autopatroller on Commons is different to autopatrolled on enwiki. TarnishedPathtalk 09:11, 16 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Under no circumstances should one overwrite an image in this case. See c:Commons:OVERWRITE. -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 09:53, 16 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
    100% TarnishedPathtalk 10:00, 16 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I see. I would never think of overwriting an existing photo. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 10:26, 16 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
ITBF, I see that you uploaded the original, and have autopatrol rights on Commons - would you be able to create a cropped version when you have time, please? Laterthanyouthink (talk) 00:24, 17 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
    Laterthanyouthink Done - File:Winnie Branson 1967.jpg. Let me know if you'd prefer a wider crop, nice work on the article by the way. I T B F 📢 08:52, 17 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
ITBF - thank you so much (x 2)! I think the photo is fine as is. :-) Laterthanyouthink (talk) 09:20, 17 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Please add reliable sources. I can't find anything from North America. Bearian (talk) 02:03, 18 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Now I want to know what happened next. Can anybody with access to Australian news please add sources? Bearian (talk) 11:13, 19 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

There is probably some information about this in the Herald Sun and The Age. If I get the spare time I'll look through ProQuest. LivelyRatification (talk) 11:32, 19 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
    Thanks! Bearian (talk) 11:33, 19 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@Bearian: I have made some edits. There's a decent bit of more recent coverage about Rapke also due to his role in the Farquharson case, but focused mainly on the report and the circumstances of his resignation. LivelyRatification (talk) 22:54, 19 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
