- Direct order → Military order (instruction) (talk · links · history · stats) [ Closure: //delete ]
Not mentioned in target. Too general of a term to redirect to this specific concept - could be a non-military order, or a shipping order. Rusalkii (talk) 22:36, 1 January 2025 (UTC)
- Delete, per nom, due to our lack of content on this precise term in any context. Even if there was content on "direct order" somewhere, it's still ambiguous and in all likelihood too nebulous and general a term for a good disambiguation page. J947 ‡ edits 22:59, 4 January 2025 (UTC)

Could also refer to another Simpsons episode: Angry Dad: The Movie; where 'Angry Dad' is the central plot point to both of them. This could be turned into a disambiguation or a section on List of recurring The Simpsons characters. Xeroctic (talk) 19:33, 25 December 2024 (UTC)
- Retarget to Alazon, since the angry father is a stock character, common across many pieces of entertainment. senex iratus (angry father) is covered at Alazon -- 65.92.246.77 (talk) 23:09, 25 December 2024 (UTC)
- Delete. This is ambiguous, and Alazon isn't the right target for "dad". Angry Dad is red, and Search will help users looking for either Simpsons episode. Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 22:26, 27 December 2024 (UTC)

- Meat and potatoes → wiktionary:meat and potatoes (talk · links · history · stats) [ Closure: //delete ]
This is currently a soft redirect to Wiktionary, which discusses this solely as an idiom. However, this is also a culinary term referring to a class of dishes (see Category:Meat and potatoes dishes, so I don't think the Wiktionary entry covers all of what would be needed here. Hog Farm Talk 03:41, 25 December 2024 (UTC)
- Delete as an WP:XY, maybe even with the possibility for its own article (maybe there's a better target? but not seeing one). A Wiktionary redirect doesn't really address the problem here. 35.139.154.158 (talk) 17:21, 25 December 2024 (UTC)
- This should be an article, but barring that, delete per nom. charlotte 👸🎄 21:21, 27 December 2024 (UTC)
- Keep. There's nothing stopping any editor writing an article at the title. It's not WP:XY as a figurative expression, and there's no reason to delete it. Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 08:50, 28 December 2024 (UTC)
- Soft redirects to Wiktionary are almost always harmful. They pollute the search dropdown box and impede searching within Wikipedia, and the target offers no encyclopedic content, despite the fact that WP is an encyclopedia, and not a dictionary. A plain search will still offer a link to Wiktionary for a term that has an entry there, so there's really nothing lost by getting rid of this. Soft redirects also produce blue links instead of red, leading a reader to think there might be more information at the target, when there is in fact none. 35.139.154.158 (talk) 17:25, 29 December 2024 (UTC)

There's a camera model called the Panasonic Lumix DMC-GX9 which is commonly called the GX9 for short, and if I google "GX9", the majority of the search results on the front page are for the camera model and not the music group (which has been disbanded since several years ago). Now I'm just not sure whether to turn GX9 (all upper-caps) into a disambiguation page or to retarget it to the camera model. — AP 499D25 (talk) 07:47, 25 December 2024 (UTC)

This was created as the result of this deletion discussion but the problem remains that I found no evidence that anyone uses this transliteration of the supposed Russian, if only because it's supposedly named after a Mr. Snow, whose name was therefore supposedly transliterated into Russian. We really need to avoid making up fake English names for things through our own transliterations, so this redirect needs to go. Mangoe (talk) 13:04, 16 December 2024 (UTC)
- Keep Regardless of the validity of this spelling, an article existed at this title from 2006 until last week. Since then, the spelling has been picked up by several travel sites in both Russian ([1]) and English ([2]) according to my Google searches. I think keeping is warranted given this error has now been in circulation for some time. - Presidentman talk · contribs (Talkback) 13:31, 16 December 2024 (UTC)

Please add new comments below this notice. Thanks, ✗plicit 14:11, 23 December 2024 (UTC)- Well, the other way to look at it is that some writer here decided to make up his own transliteration which has enjoyed some extremely limited dissemination by unwary WP copiers. And therefore we should suppress that by refusing to continue to amplify this by deleting the redirect. One could argue that the correct English spelling should be the English name that the Russian is itself transliterating in the firest place, but the fact seems to remain that we don't have a legitimate authority for this. Mangoe (talk) 14:13, 23 December 2024 (UTC)

- Keep. There's nothing unusual about systematic romanization from a non-Latin alphabet. Even when we decide for other reasons to prefer a different form (e.g. because of WP:COMMONNAME, or in this case because it's named after Henry James Snow in the first place), a systematic romanization remains plausible. That, along with how long an article existed at the title, leads me to default to keep. Adumbrativus (talk) 00:42, 3 January 2025 (UTC)

A Raynore329 redirect that didn't get deleted in the mass deletion spree. I personally don't think this is plausible. User:Someone-123-321 (I contribute, Talk page so SineBot will shut up) 08:17, 1 January 2025 (UTC)
- It wasn't a spree; I tried to be very precise about only R3ing the most obviously implausible redirects, so yes there are many left that are questionable but didn't seem speedyable. That said, this actually doesn't seem super implausible, given that Wii is a made-up word with nonstandard orthography, but it is ambiguous with a few things called WIII and I hesitate to invoke WP:DIFFCAPS for a typo, so retarget to WIII, which has a see-also to WII, which in turn includes Wii. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (they|xe|🤷) 08:28, 1 January 2025 (UTC)

My initial take was that this was a plausible typo, but per Google this appears to be a somewhat common first name, so it may be surprising to have it redirect to the city. None of these are common ways to refer to the person in question, and, with the exception of Barack O, all are ambiguous. - Delete all These not helpful because there is no reason anyone would think these made-up abbreviations would work. How about "Donald T.", "Don T" and "Donald J.T."? Redirects cannot be a substitute for searching. Johnuniq (talk) 04:17, 1 January 2025 (UTC)
- Strong Delete all as vague, unused bunk. -1ctinus📝🗨 14:27, 1 January 2025 (UTC)
- Delete the article for John T. Ford comes up as Images results at the top of Google and the article John T. Chambers comes up in the middle. For Barack O all the results are indeed for Obama as with Donald T. For Rutherford H most results are for Rutherford Platt but for Rutherford B only Hayes comes up. I'd definitely say the 1st and 3rd should be deletd and I'd say weakly for the others. Crouch, Swale (talk) 21:44, 1 January 2025 (UTC)
- Keep Barack O, delete the rest. As Barack targets Barack Obama, "Barack O" becomes unambiguous and pointing at the correct location. "[First name] [Last initial]" is a common way of searching for names, but the only requirement at that point is that the combination needs to be unambiguously pointing at the right location for it to work well. For Barack O, it is. For the rest, it is not, and thereby the rest can be deleted.
- (People who are unfamiliar with the targets of redirects might assume the first name of "Barack" is ambiguous, and might add the letter "O" for good measure to make sure they end up at the right location. To that end, this particular title can assist searches.) Utopes (talk / cont) 19:15, 2 January 2025 (UTC)
- Definitely delete John T (John Travolta?) and Donald T (Donald Tusk?) as way too ambiguous. Weak delete the Rutherford ones as potentially ambiguous and not very useful. No strong opinion on Barack O – seems unambiguous but isn't very useful for searching either. Virtually anyone who remembers "Barack O" will also remember the rest of the man's last name. —Mx. Granger (talk · contribs) 04:37, 3 January 2025 (UTC)
- Strong keep Barack O and keep Rutherford B (both clear primary/sole topics), weak keep Donald T (other Donald T's exist but Trump is arguably primary topic), delete John T and Rutherford H. 🦬 Beefaloe 🦬 (talk) 06:29, 4 January 2025 (UTC)

- Delete all Punctuation is mentioned at WP:RPURPOSE but that is for likely confusion over what kind of dash might be in a title. Handling excess punctuation is not a purpose of redirects. Johnuniq (talk) 04:26, 1 January 2025 (UTC)
- Delete all Redirects like these have been deleted in the past, and none of them are specifically stylized in quotes. "Nitro" MAY be a VERY weak redirect to Discord#Monetization, because I've seen some people call it "Nitro" but that's a VERY weak redirect nom. - Keep all except "GAS": delete that one. There is longstanding consensus to keep this type of redirect as the quotation marks function as replacements for italics. This is especially relevant for song titles, so you can see many examples of "Summer" at Summer (disambiguation). J947 ‡ edits 08:48, 1 January 2025 (UTC)
- Why should "GAS" in particular be deleted? User:Someone-123-321 (I contribute, Talk page so SineBot will shut up) 12:19, 1 January 2025 (UTC)

- @J947 - Gas (musician) stylises in all caps, with his first album also being called Gas (also stylised as GAS on the cover). Reliable sources refer to the musician in all caps, eg Pitchfork - Wolfgang Voigt Announces First New GAS Album in 17 Years. BugGhost 🦗👻 14:05, 2 January 2025 (UTC)

- I've done a search and posted previous RfDs for song titles enclosed by quotation marks above. The upshot is that these have had differing results in recent times (and I'm sure there's more examples I haven't been able to find). There is concern over how the quotes may impede the search engine in some of these RfDs. J947 ‡ edits 05:18, 2 January 2025 (UTC)

- The above comment is the nomination statement of a duplicate nomination that is now merged that included five of these redirects and had the addition of "Future", which was not initially part of this nomination. 1ctinus, please ensure you tag all the redirects next time (which can be accomplished more easily through the use of the userscript WP:MASSXFD) so this does not reoccur. J947 ‡ edits 04:43, 2 January 2025 (UTC)
- Delete all: Most of these hadn't been tagged for deletion until I found them today, so I nominated all for deletion. An argument could be made if they were song titles or something, but even then, we don't have "I Knew You Were Trouble" or "Hurt". Significa liberdade (she/her) (talk) 04:43, 2 January 2025 (UTC)
- Delete all of these unnatural titles. Quotes in redirects interfere with title-matching searches and are generally discouraged. These new creations don't seem to be worth the maintenance cost. Utopes (talk / cont) 19:10, 2 January 2025 (UTC)

- gotta be honest, i don't see how that's an issue. if a reader wants something else known as "summer", they'd probably know to go to the dab, or just type a disambiguator outright. also, isn't this the opposite of what you said below? consarn (speak evil) (see evil) 12:36, 9 January 2025 (UTC)

- Delete; this phrasing is just as likely to be used by someone trying to search for the exact string like in a search engine, rather than trying to search for italics; if this exists it's going to be actively hampering for someone who types this directly into the search bar looking for the string. Hog Farm Talk 04:27, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
- If you search "Universe" in the search bar you will be directed to Universe, not "Universe" or search results (which is annoying in and of itself). J947 ‡ edits 05:24, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
- @J I appreciate again, found out this discussion is unuseful. These people don't read, they are vigilantes, here to maintain the status quo. Originally, mine, was just a way to focus on the simple problem i would like to search for word instead than Word. gtp (talk) 07:43, 8 January 2025 (UTC)

- Delete: To my knowledge, we do not have other redirects like this. For instance, we don't have Deadliest snake or Deadliest_tornado. I can't imagine trying to keep up with a redirect like this if a new crash becomes the deadliest, for example. Significa liberdade (she/her) (talk) 04:57, 2 January 2025 (UTC)

- Delete or retarget to List of deadliest aircraft accidents and incidents. This would open up a WP:PANDORA of "Deadlist x in y" redirects, which would be near impossible to moniter and keep upto date. Wikipedia is an online encylopedia, not a search engine and therefore this redirect would be entirely unencylopdic, and potential fall foul of WP:CROSSCAT. SSSB (talk) 14:19, 5 January 2025 (UTC)

- Weak keep if mention is added, otherwise delete If I hadn't have had the foresight to look it up on zeldawiki, I would've treated this as a redirect to a target that makes no sense to the target. However, this IS a Zelda place that IS in TLoZ:LA (and IT'S remakes), so it might be worthy of a mention.
