Non notable athlete CTJF83 chat 02:15, 10 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
DeleteUndecided - he has been mentioned in a few news articles about his team or matches in which he appeared (for example, [1]) but he doesn't quite meet WP:ATHLETE unless anyone can argue that "inter-county level" is the fully professional level or highest amateur level of the sport. DOOMSDAYER520 (Talk|Contribs) 02:54, 10 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]- Keep. According to Gaelic football, "Teams from both London and New York compete in the annual All-Ireland Senior Football Championship, the highest level of the game." This makes it an international contest, and "the highest amateur level of a sport" (since Gaelic football is not played in the Olympics). Therefore having "won the All-Ireland football final with Kerry" (played on the winning team) fulfills WP:ATHLETE. DES (talk) 17:12, 10 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- I have taken back my Delete vote based on the argument of DES above. Now I'm neutral because under the strictest definition of WP:ATHLETE Mr. Walsh appears to qualify, but now I'm not really sure if it's him or his league that is truly notable. I'll leave it to others who are more familiar with this subject matter. DOOMSDAYER520 (Talk|Contribs) 17:36, 10 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

- I have added a number of references from newspaper articles on Mr Walsh (searches are tricky because there have recently been two other players on the same team of the same last name, one this player's brother). None of these is truly in-depth coverage on its own, but I think taken together they add up to "notability" and I could have added as many more of similar content.DES (talk) 18:18, 10 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- I question whether enough WP:BEFORE was done on this article. Disclosure: I declined an A7 speedy on this. DES (talk) 18:19, 10 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- I'll admit I "dropped the ball on" this. It was my lack of understanding sports in other countries.CTJF83 chat 07:47, 11 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- I admit that the notability here is somewhat marginal. And the original article was unsourced and a bit fannish in tone. But there are now sources saying that his play in Italy was professional, estimating that he earned $100,000 in one season. That seems to fulfill another criterion of WP:ATHLETE. - Note to closing admin WOW Look at all the references added since the deletion,[2] this article has been significantly improved. Okip (formerly Ikip) 22:03, 12 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Strong keep per the incredible referencing efforts of DESiegel. Okip (formerly Ikip) 22:03, 12 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Keep. Has played (and, incidently, been part of the winning team) in the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship, the highest level of his sport, so passing WP:ATHLETE. Phil Bridger (talk) 22:29, 12 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- I withdraw my nomination. CTJF83 chat 04:45, 13 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
