Quembol Guadalupe
You should have waited one more day to create Quembol Guadalupe in order to coincide with his birthday.
Kind regards. Barr Theo (talk) 19:19, 3 February 2025 (UTC)
- Hi there, maybe he can see it as an early birthday present to have a Wikipedia article seeing as it wasn't even in Spanish (the Peruvian league seems pretty well covered on es.wikipedia.org). I feel kind of bad for the chap because he seemed to be quite a prospect and was tracked by two under-20 national teams, but has not shaken off an 18-month injury, and news coverage seems to suggest he's being loaned out again. Hopefully to play more than the 102 minutes he got before.
- I enjoy your work on Spanish football, particularly the pre-Civil War era, which obviously requires research in order to write meaningful articles. I had a project to give every Copa del Rey final player an article (there were surprisingly many that didn't, including from Barcelona and Real Madrid as late as the 1980s) but I have barely tried any before 1960. I find that Mundo Deportivo in that era is rather short on personal coverage, and those who died before the Internet are barely touched in obituaries. Unknown Temptation (talk) 20:38, 3 February 2025 (UTC)
- Yeah, I have also created a lot of Spanish individuals who didn't even have an article on es.wikipedia.org, such as José Gandarias, Pedro Irastorza, Óscar Ramón, Josep Llobet, Jorge Barrié, Enrique Careaga, Ramón de Aras Jáuregui, Fermín Lomba, and that's in February 2024 alone.
- "Particularly the pre-Civil War era"..., my friend; 90% of my work on Spanish football is pre-Civil War era. I have created over 300 Spaniards linked to football, and only like 10 are living people, such as Óscar Ramón, Carlos Arroyo, Juan José Estella, Maria Antònia Mínguez, and Lolita Ortiz.
- Researching ain't that hard. I simply search their names on Google (or surname + club; surname + year) and use every single source I can find, exept for those I can't use. I rarely use newspapers in my Spanish creations... Interestingly, Spanish footballers have lots of sources from trivial websites, but few from newspapers, while French footballers have lots of sources from newspapers, but few from trivial websites. Its unfortunate that neither have both, but lucky that at least both have one.
- I was also shocked by the lack of representation of Copa del Rey final players. For instance, all 22 players of the 1902 final have a page, but I created 19 of them. Barr Theo (talk) 17:17, 7 February 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks for the reply. A difficulty I find with research is Mundo Deportivo using mononyms, presumably to save space. Finding the right "Álvaro" or "Martínez" can be tough, especially when different writers use a different mononym. Then there's also the fact that Basque names are written inconsistently all the way into the 1990s (Castilian approximations of Basque names). I'll start a new deep dive of remaining players of the 60s-80s once I feel a bit more focused. Unknown Temptation (talk) 18:07, 7 February 2025 (UTC)
- I don't think you read what I said, so I will repeat: You don't need Mundo Deportivo to create pages. All you have to do is searching their names on Google (or surname + club; surname + year) and use every single source you can find.
- That's how I created most of my pre-Civil War era footballers. You can check it yourself.
- Anyways, I currently have 601 created pages, while you currently have 652 created pages, so please do not feel discouraged when I overtake your tally in March. This is not a race, and there is no competition between us. Quality over quantity, always.
- Stay healthy and kind regards. Barr Theo (talk) 23:23, 21 February 2025 (UTC)
- Hi, I've never suggested there was a race between us to create as many articles as possible. That's not something I aim for, nor something I check. Plus many of mine are redirects of long names, and disambiguations of common names and surnames. Thank you for your good wishes. Unknown Temptation (talk) 07:52, 22 February 2025 (UTC)
