Lough Swilly Lifeboat Station
Thanks for the corrections on the Lough Swilly Lifeboat Station page. I wanted to point out, the occasion of 'the the' errors on my behalf, seems to be an auto error correct, its happened three or four times now. If you find any, it should usually read 'to the', so please check the context before deleting what appears to be a double entry.
Also, Lifeboat Numbers have hyphens, not Endash, as its a number 13-08 (the eighth of type 13), not a range. I know its something wiki picks up, and it didn't see the other fve numbers, all 47-XXX.
But we're all good, Best wishes

- @Ojsyork: Thanks for the heads-up, and thanks for fixing those up in the article. It is a good reminder for me to take more care next time.--Gronk Oz (talk) 11:39, 4 December 2024 (UTC)

Interface administrator changes
- Following an RFC, the policy on restoration of adminship has been updated. All former administrators may now only regain the tools following a request at the Wikipedia:Bureaucrats' noticeboard within 5 years of their most recent admin action. Previously this applied only to administrators deysopped for inactivity.
- Following a request for comment, a new speedy deletion criterion, T5, has been enacted. This applies to template subpages that are no longer used.
- Technical volunteers can now register for the 2025 Wikimedia Hackathon, which will take place in Istanbul, Turkey. Application for travel and accommodation scholarships is open from November 12 to December 10, 2024.
- The arbitration case Yasuke (formerly titled Backlash to diversity and inclusion) has been closed.
- An arbitration case titled Palestine-Israel articles 5 has been opened. Evidence submissions in this case will close on 14 December.
Orphaned non-free image File:Logo of the Humane Society International Australia.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Logo of the Humane Society International Australia.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of non-free use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 03:42, 5 January 2025 (UTC)
- @B-bot: Thanks for letting me know. That image has been superseded by Humane Society International Australia logo.png, so I have tagged it for deletion.--Gronk Oz (talk) 05:37, 5 January 2025 (UTC)

- Following an RFC, Wikipedia:Notability (species) was adopted as a subject-specific notability guideline.
- A request for comment is open to discuss whether admins should be advised to warn users rather than issue no-warning blocks to those who have posted promotional content outside of article space.
- The Nuke feature also now provides links to the userpage of the user whose pages were deleted, and to the pages which were not selected for deletion, after page deletions are queued. This enables easier follow-up admin-actions.

The article 2023 SJL Aviation ERJ-135 crash has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Minor accident, no WP:SUSTAINED coverage in independent sources
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Fram (talk) 10:10, 16 January 2025 (UTC)

book cover images
Hi, Gronk Oz
I am pretty new at editting WP. I would like to add a book cover image of the book "Growing up in the Ice Age: Fossil and Archaeological Evidence of the Lived Lives of Plio-Pleistocene Children" for Susan Gerbic's article. However, there is no image in the Commons for this book. I see you added an book cover image for her article "Mind the Science: Saving Your Mental Health from the Wellness Industry". Where did you get that image from? Can I take a screencapture from the Amazon site?
Thank you.
Joel Neutron jf (talk) 05:20, 17 March 2025 (UTC)
- Hi, Neutron jf. I am happy to help you through this process, because it is a bit fiddly but not hard if you do it right.
- As you may know, Wikipedia is very careful about copyright, and this includes the images of things like book covers. They are not "free content" (which can go into Commons); they use a different process. You can read about it at WP:FAIRUSE.
- The principle is that even though the image is not free, we can still make limited "fair use" of it. In particular, a low-resolution copy of the image can be used just once at the top of the article (typically in the Infobox) for visual identification of the article's subject. (Remember those words; they will come in handy later.)
- Basically, your process will be:
- Get a copy of the image, e.g. from Amazon, and convert it to low resolution. "Low resolution" is defined in detail here, but typically about 250 × 400 pixels.
- Upload this to Wikipedia (NOT to Commons) using a "Fair Use" justification.
- Update the article to include that picture.
- Let me know once you have the first step, if I can help guide you through the next bit. Gronk Oz (talk) 05:55, 17 March 2025 (UTC)
