Hey, how are ya? My name's Juan and I'm a 20 year old History university student. My main two interests are History (who would've thought?) and music, particularly that of the '70s and '80s. You can find a list of my favorite artists down below. Most of my contributions have been to album articles, especially those related to ABBA and Fleetwood Mac.
Generally, I like checking, fixing and/or improving the track listing and personnel sections of various articles, using the liner notes and covers from the albums, which I usually find online (often through eBay). I've also really enjoyed doing bigger and more important edits that consist of expanding an article's overall information significantly. However, since these projects require an considerable amount of time, they are much less frequent. My favorite and biggest contribution so far has been to Christine McVie.
Wikipedia has helped explore a path for my future I never had imagined: the possibility of becoming a music historian. I'm still new-ish to the site and I'm constantly learning. I find being an editor to be very satisfying and therapeutic. Editing album articles has become one of my favorite hobbies.
Background
My name's Juan David. I live in Bogotá, Colombia, which was were I was born on July 19, 2004. I also lived in the U.S. for around two years, on two separate occasions and states. I love history, music, sitcoms and action shows, cleaning and organizing, CaseOh, and now, editing Wikipedia articles. I also have a pet cat that I adore; her name's Fluffy. I am fluent in both Spanish and English
Although I'd like to say I always knew History was what I wanted to study, I was unsure at the time and worried about regretting my choice or not finding my passion. Now, however, I can confidently say it was the right decision, and I can't imagine majoring in anything else (something that makes me forget how uncertain I once was).
My journey here started on August 8, 2024, when, for a Digital Humanities class, I had to edit a Wikipedia article as part of an assignment. I added the "Personnel" section to Wrap Your Arms Around Me. I never knew that it was so easy, simple and accessible to edit on here. If it weren’t for that class, I probably wouldn’t have tried editing or would have started much later. Since then, however, I've been hooked, editing and collaborating on mostly album articles.
Favorite artists/bands
This is a list of my favorite artists and bands, based on the way I've connected with them and what they've meant to me at different times of my life. They stand out among all the ones I have explored so far. In no particular order, they are:
The top tracks that are currently playing in my mind; my favorites of the moment. The list is updated every three months (next time: April 17th). Track lengths are taken from Spotify.
List of albums I can confidently say I've truly listened to.
To "complete" an album, I need to listen to it multiple times, familiarize myself with its songs and their lyrics, and see how much it continues to grow on me. It's a rigorous process, but I enjoy taking my time to assure that these albums get the attention and care they deserve. I only hope I have enough time in this life to do this for all the albums I want to explore.
Once an album gets completed, it becomes Juan approved™.
