I am a retired Air National Guard Colonel Master Navigator having served for 30 years assigned to the 180th Airlift Squadron for flying with more than 7,000 flying hours. I was previously a member of the Army National Guard for 4 1/2 years prior to accepting a direct commission in the Air National Guard. I proudly served in the uniformed services of the United States for more that 34 years. I have participated in many military operations including Operation Team Spirit, Operation Desert Shield/Storm, Operation Joint Endeavor, Operation Southern Watch and Operation Joint Forge.

As I have the time, I have created and edited articles on military history particularly on Air Force and Air National Guard units and Air Force or Air National Guard service members. I was formerly J45ok before I changed my user name to Colgator (Colonel Vernon W "Gator" James). I am the unofficial historian for the 180th Airlift Squadron and the 139th Airlift Wing and have written the history of the units which is on the 139th Airlift Wing official website.
