Talk:List of Filipino Nobel laureates and nominees

Discussion re the "Members of laureate organizations" section

Please visit the discussion I've begun on the inclusion in this article and in several other "List of X Nobel laureates and nominees" articles of a "Members of laureate organizations" section at Talk:List of Brazilian Nobel laureates and nominees#Laureates and non-laureates. Moving title to List of Nobel laureates and nominees from the Philippines

The very reason of moving the article "List of Filipino Nobel laureates and nominees" to "List of Nobel laurates and nominees from the Philippines" was to make the article inclusive in nature, that is, by including expatriate and foreign Nobel laureates who were born, lived during nominations or awarding, and died in the Philippines. It allows numerous foreign Nobel nominees and those of Filipino-descent who not citizens to be also included. JB Hoang Tam 2 (talk) 02:39, 18 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I saw what your reason was the first time. I disagreed with it and reverted it, and now, if you want to move it, you have to initiate a move request to see if you can get a consensus from others over your reason. Largoplazo (talk) 02:41, 18 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Whether foreign residents and expatriates in the Philippines should be added...

Though not a Filipino citizen, the American chemist Richard F. Heck (1931–2015) won the 2010 Nobel Prize in Chemistry whilst residing in the Philippines "for palladium-catalyzed cross couplings in organic synthesis" (jointly awarded with the Japanese chemists Ei-ichi Negishi and Akira Suzuki.[1][2][3] Heck has been a resident in the country since 1989 until his death in 2015, becoming adjunct professor in chemistry at the De La Salle University, Manila during his stay.[2][4] JB Hoang Tam 2 (talk) 05:46, 17 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The thing is he is ultimately not a Filipino citizen. This is a big stretch. You can't really say his residency is crucial to his work on "palladium-catalyzed cross couplings in organic synthesis" The sources themselves account to how his recognition was long overdue - Heck was awarded for work he has done in the 1960s-1977 before moving to the Philippines to retire. I feel that this is an effort to arbitrarily and unduly assign's Heck's achievement to the Filipino people similar to what Largoplazo said to you two years ago on the Brazil page.Hariboneagle927 (talk) 05:58, 17 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
