Overall: Looks good to go. The hook is succinct and interesting, the article meets the criteria, and there are no outstanding issues elsewhere. SounderBruce03:39, 15 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I've listed this article for peer review because I wish for it to achieve Featured List status. I am welcome for improvements to it. I am also unsure of whether to change the title to "List of invasive species in the United Arab Emirates". I would like advice on whether I should do it or not; the list also does not cover every single invasive species, just the more notable ones discussed in a variety of sources. I hope that is fine.
@Jolielover: Greetings! I will check out this article. First and foremost, in terms of titling the article, I think keeping "list" off is best, as it gives a history of how those species came to the UAE and a bit about the effect these species have, although a move discussion should probably be had about this, as for articles talking about invasive species in a country, about half are titled "List of invasive species of X", while the other half are titled "Invasive species of X". In regards to species coverage, only covering notable ones is fine, as is done in the Invasive species in the United States article. On to the review!
Upon first glance:
I'd like to see a little bit more about the effects that species have on the country, beyond just "threatening local biodiversity." How are endemic species affected by these species more specifically (i.e. resource competition, population decline, etc.)? This is touched on in the lead, and briefly in the list portion, but a specific section about impact with more info (stats if possible) would be best. I think Introduced species of the British Isles does a good job in doing this.
Further, what impacts on the economy or other human systems because of these species? You mention agricultural damage, but what specifically? I would really like to see more thorough coverage of this impact in a separate section.
Similarly, what, if anything, is being done to combat these species being introduced/spread within the country? I would imagine that if these species are problematic, some sort of campaign would be created against them. Invasive species in the United States does a good job with this and the previous point.
Past the history section, this article is reliant on a single source. I'd also alphabetize the source section, and separate citation 8 into specific page numbers throughout the article rather than keeping that wide range. There are also a few instances of WP:REPCITE that should be addressed.
Taking a closer look:
"The United Arab Emirates defines an invasive species"
Surely a division of the government right?
"The invasion of foreign species is considered a threat to native ecosystems within the country."
By who?
"As of 2019, there were 272 invasive species in the country."
This seems difficult to be conclusively state, no? Also, probably worth mentioning who provided this number?
"A 2015 study by the Journal of Threatened Taxa found that of a total of 146 invasive species,"
Why did they omit over 100 species? Is it likely that the percentages given are still accurate when applied to the whole invasive species population?
Overall:
Beyond these comments, this is a very well-written article. The actual list of species is well-written and includes everything I'd like to see about these species- what they are, how they came, how to stop them, and why they're a problem, I'd just like to see a more general impact overview and solutions overview. I hope the above comments are helpful in working on bringing this incredibly interesting topic to FL status- you don't hear about invasive species in a desert very often. Best of luck to you!
