Adding that two additional snippets were released on 05/13/19 in the leadup to the album, for "A Boy is a Gun" [1] and "New Magic Wand" [2] which featured Santigold. Manthanmachine (talk) 14:35, 17 May 2019 (UTC)

Should the themes and narrative section be removed?
Hey STATicVapor. I just read WP:Potentially unreliable sources and I been thinking, since the source is written by an unknown contributor of Forbes, should we removed the section off the article since the content is supported by an unreliable source. TheAmazingPeanuts (talk) 02:18, 25 May 2019 (UTC)
- I could support that. StaticVapor message me! 17:25, 25 May 2019 (UTC)
- @STATicVapor: Editor Nice4What added different sources in the section with this edit. What do you think of these sources? TheAmazingPeanuts (talk) 16:41, 25 May 2019 (UTC)
- I believe NME and possibly DjBooth qualify as reliable sources. One Forbes reference remains however. StaticVapor message me! 21:49, 25 May 2019 (UTC)
- I initially added the whole "Themes and narrative" section and yes, the dissection of the opening track "Igor's Theme" only has the Forbes article cited. I'm hoping to find another reliable sources explains the song and the themes of the album before removing the paragraph. Nice4What (talk) 21:57, 25 May 2019 (UTC)

I believe that the section related to a review by Rowan5215 on a community based music review service should be removed. This is not a professional source, and as that has typically been the criteria for including reviews, this does not belong. JerryLandis (talk) 00:08, 28 May 2019 (UTC)
- @JerryLandis: Sputnikmusic is an reliable source per WP:ALBUM/SOURCES. As long it is written by a staff and emeritus, it is classified as reliable. TheAmazingPeanuts (talk) 19:45, 27 May 2019 (UTC)

Bolded video album
@TheAmazingPeanuts: To avoid an edit war, I just want to explain why I've bolded Apple Music Presents: Tyler, the Creator despite it not being in the lede. Going to Apple Music Presents: Tyler, the Creator redirects to the Promotion subsection of this article. See MOS:BOLDREDIRECT. - @Nice4What: While I don't fully agreed that should be in bold text, but I let it be that way since it's in the guidelines. Sorry for the confusion. TheAmazingPeanuts (talk) 17:07, 15 August 2019 (UTC)

IGOR is a pop album
Since I know my edit will get undeservedly reversed again, I'll just type this out now.
First of all, this very article is categorized as a pop music article on multiple accounts, if it's not a pop album, why even bother having those?
Secondly, Tyler (the artist behind this very album) has repeatedly started that this is a pop album and not a rap album and that very thing is sourced IN THIS ARTICLE.
Third of all, saying "we don't care" implies having a superiority complex, because what you're saying is, it doesn't matter what the person who created the thing says about the thing, what matters is what other people say. OTHER people are a reliable source... but not it coming from the horse's mouth. Even though SAID mouth is sourced AS SAYING IT'S A POP ALBUM. Other people (and the Grammys) describe it as a rap album, and Tyler is saying it's not. Why do other people who had nothing to do with the project matter, but the person who CREATED the project is tossed aside and we're supposed to act doesn't matter because "you" don't care about it??? 4TheLuvOfFax (talk) 16:22, 6 February 2025 (UTC)
- Pinging @Binksternet: This editor don't know how genres work here. TheAmazingPeanuts (talk) 18:06, 6 February 2025 (UTC)
- Once again, this article and this talk page describes it as a pop album multiple times. the point in even including those 4TheLuvOfFax (talk) 18:10, 6 February 2025 (UTC)
- Then show me a source that explicitly called Igor a pop album, instead of going by what Tyler says. TheAmazingPeanuts (talk) 18:21, 6 February 2025 (UTC)
- Tyler's own assessment of the genre may be interesting to the reader but it does not define the topic. Per WP:SECONDARY, topics are defined by uninvolved observers evaluating the topic in reliable sources. That means music critics and journalists are the sources for genre.
- Rolling Stone says the album is a mix of R&B, funk and rap. The notional source for pop genre, the Variety piece where Tyler is complaining about racism in the Grammy categories, is not necessarily about Igor's musical style as much as it is about Tyler as a Black artist getting pigeonholed.
- If you want to add the pop genre, you will need to find a major publication saying the album is exactly that. See WP:EXPLICITGENRE. Binksternet (talk) 18:31, 6 February 2025 (UTC)

Hi, I'm picking up the review! Stared at it in the nominations list for the last month, and now is just the right time :)
- Hi, I feel we almost at the finish line (left with a couple of things from the peer review, background, and the introduction of the reception into the lead). If you need help editing or clarification for my proposals, I can give you a hand. LastJabberwocky (talk) 08:36, 11 March 2025 (UTC)

Background and recording
this source you cite in the article gives "March 2017" as the approximate start of the album's recording (via the recording of "Earfquake"), but the article doesn't include the month. There are other sources that contradict the date?
Tyler wrote "Running Out of Time" while taking a break from a recording session with American rapper ASAP Ferg, feeling reassured after Kendrick Lamar told Tyler he appreciated his singing. The two sources that follow the sentence say: Tyler recorded "Running Out of Time" with ASAP Ferg and a person named "Kendrick" helped him find his confidence as a singer.
- The two facts seem unrelated, at least from the information I gathered.
Done
- They doesn't say Tyler took a break from recording sessions to record with Ferg.
- This Kendrick must be Kendrick Lamar, but I think we should make a note that Tyler didn't say his last name, but this source assumes this Kendrick is the Kendrick Lamar.
Removed altogether. Those articles are mostly speculation on who the "Kendrick" guy is. 🌙Eclipse (she/they/all neos • talk • edits) 13:23, 22 February 2025 (UTC)
Composition
I think you should combine the first, the last sentence within the first paragraph, and sentence about "Earfquake" (since both of them talk about Igor's genres/sounds/genre nomination). The second paragraph can be solely about album's lore/lyricism.
- I realize the second paragraph would be relatively bigger, and there is also a consideration for aesthetic compromises with the audio snippet, but it seems a little more streamlined narratively.

Reception
This one can be added to the mixed section (from the Guardian review), as a downside of the unconventional production. "True to his word, Tyler raps less than ever before – and when he does, he often cloaks his voice in digital effects, burying the vocals in a lush blanket of arrangements rather than propping them on top. Even the high-profile guests are often hard to identify."
This one also nice (Guardian review). Again about the downside of the production and specific thing why it's compared unfavorably against his previous works. "Tyler too often leaves behind some of the raw, uncompromising humanity that distinguishes his best work." Done
Sorry for picking up a bad review. I think they are the one that are usually less explored and I'm running out of energy to look at more :)
Lead
Probably the most difficult thing to add, the things critics praised about the album and which didn't land. Can be added as the second paragraph or a start of the third one.
Loose list (you can add anything/remove anything):
- emotional depth, comparing it to a classic soul LP for its expression of "pain, vulnerability, and compulsion"
- unconventional structure and intricate production
- best album by Tyler
- BUT. the minimalist approach suits Tyler well but can feel repetitive
- Tyler too often leaves behind some of the raw, uncompromising humanity that distinguishes his best work.
Links and plagiarism
- Per link-dispenser all links work perfectly or archived.
- Copyvios only picks up a few quotes.
Sources
Checked reliability of sources. All good per Wikipedia:WikiProject Albums/Sources and Wikipedia:Record charts.
Peer review
Turns out there was a peer review, so I'm copying some things out of this review here, for convenience.
- See also section? I'm not familiar with the requirement for this one. We probably can put 2019 in music as "see also", since Igor is pretty notable for music.
- One of the reviewers asked this question "Can we expand on the Commercial performance section?". I don't see how it can be expanded (or alternatively it has already been expanded it since then).
- "Add the Release history section. I noticed that there's a standard edition and bonus edition."
- There are (were) two cover art pieces. The first, cartoonish one is an alternative viny cover; I didn't find a lot of bts info (here's interview with the artist). The one is a covert for a live album released by Apple, and I found two Apple-centric sources, which hurts our neutral POV (source and source). I more oftne than not for inclusion rathen than exclusion of material, so I would restore the cartoonish art, IF the interview has something concrete. If not, the two pieces are gone for good.
