I have removed the item about the ship sinking the tug Buccaneer. It was, in fact, her sister ship Saintes that sunk the tug whilst trialling a new destroyer gun turret.
Looking at the photo of HMS St James R65 10 July 1946, and the 3 photos of HMS St James D65 from November 1948 to June 1953 do we know when the pennant was changed? JRPG (talk) 10:48, 13 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry for the late comment, rt has been distracting. In short I can't say for certain, Boniface's Battle Class Destroyers, though extremely comprehensive in most regards, makes no mention of the class's pennant numbers. I would therefore assume that it happened in the general standardisation of pennant numbers in 1948, which fits with the dates of the pictures of her from battleships-cruisers.net. Thanks for this Benea. I was mildly astonished to see the pennant number on the article contradicting the picture -casting doubt the reliability of the article.
