A fact from this article appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the "Did you know?" column on June 23, 2020.
The text of the entry was: Did you know ... that during the 1970 U.S. Senate election in New York, Vice President Spiro Agnew referred to Senator Charles Goodell as the "Christine Jorgensen of the Republican Party"?

no election for the last 2 months of the unexpired term

Contrast this election to that of 2010 in Illinois, where Mark Kirk won TWO races regarding President Obama's old U.S. Senate seat: one for the last 2 months, and one for the full 6-year tearm to start 3 Jan. 2011. Apparently, Goodell's 1968 appointment went all the way through to 3 Jan. 1971.
