The Second Battle of Higos Urco was a confrontation on 6 September 1822, between the royalist troops of Moyobamba and the patriots of Chachapoyas. The patriotic victory in the battle consolidated the independence of Amazonas.
Background
After the First Battle of Higos Urco, the independence of Maynas was proclaimed, integrating it into the newly created Peruvian Republic.[1][2] However, a royalist reaction occurred: the Spanish took the garrisons on the Putumayo River, attacking Moyobamba and threatening Chachapoyas.
The second battle
Following the news from Maynas, the Trujillo Arms Command organized an expedition under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Egúsquiza. Shortly after, it was reinforced by another expedition, under the command of José Nicolás Arriola, who defeated the royalists and recovered Moyobamba.[3]
