Sayonee is a 2020 Indian Hindi-language action thriller film directed by Nitin Kumar Gupta. The film stars debutants Tanmay Ssingh and Musskan Sethi alongside Rahul Roy, Yograj Singh, and Upasana Singh. The film was released theatrically on 18 December 2020.
Plot
Rajdeep Randhawa (Tanmay Ssingh), a national shooting gold medalist and musician, falls in love with Mahi (Musskan Sethi). Their romance blossoms in Punjab, but when Mahi travels to Russia for research, she mysteriously disappears. Raj must then navigate through Russia's criminal underworld, facing corrupt police, human traffickers, and the Russian mafia to find her. The search leads him to encounter various characters including a Hindi-speaking Russian stripper named Lena and a police officer (Rahul Roy), while uncovering unexpected truths about Mahi's disappearance.

Production
The film was produced by Lucky Nadiadwala Morani Productions and D&T Productions Pvt. Ltd. It was primarily shot in Russia and Punjab, India. The cinematography received particular notice for its capture of Russian locations.[citation needed]
Music
The film's soundtrack features a remake of the popular 1998 song "Sayonee" originally composed by Salman Ahmad. Singer Arijit Singh, who had reportedly requested permission to remake the song for five years, performed the new version.[1] The music album also includes contributions from B Praak and Mika Singh, with the latter performing the song "Ek Pappi". The song "Mohabbat Ajnabee", sung by Sachet Tandon and Sukriti Kakar, was composed by Rangon with lyrics by Sohail Haider.[2]

Release
Sayonee was released in theaters on 18 December 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic when theaters were operating with restricted capacity. It was one of the few films to receive a theatrical release during this period.[citation needed]
Reception
The film received mixed reviews from critics. The cinematography and music were praised. The performances of the debutant leads Tanmay Ssingh and Musskan Sethi received varied responses, with Ssingh's romantic scenes being better received than his action sequences.[citation needed]
