Swami Sadanand Saraswati (born Ramesh Awasthi in 1958) is the current Shankaracharya of Dwarka Sharada Peetham.[1]
Early life and education
Born in Bargi (Karakbel-Gotegaon), Narsinghpur district, Madhya Pradesh, his birth name was Ramesh Awasthi. His father was Pandit Vidyadhar Awasthi, a physician and farmer, and his mother was Mankunwarbai. He was the youngest of seven siblings.[2]
He studied at a government school in Stationganj, Narsinghpur. An incident in his eighth grade led him to leave home and seek refuge at Paramhansi Ganga Ashram.[3]
He later pursued religious studies, including the study of Vedas and Puranas, under the guidance of Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati.[4]
Shankaracharya of Dwarka Sharada Peetham
Following the death of Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati in 2022,[5] Sadanand Saraswati was appointed as the Shankaracharya of Dwarka Sharada Peetham.[6]
Activities and views
Sadanand Saraswati has expressed views on various religious and social issues. He has spoken on the Ayodhya Ram Mandir and related matters.[7]He has also made statements regarding the entry of non-Hindus into religious gatherings such as the Mahakumbh Mela.[8][9]
He has authored and translated several books in Hindi, Sanskrit, Gujarati, and English.
In the 2020 book, Adi Shankaracharya, Spirituality and Management, by Dr. Bhavesh A. Kinkhabwala explores the connection between Adi Shankaracharya's teachings and modern management principles, mentioning Swami Sadanand Saraswati. The book aims to bridge spirituality and management through interdisciplinary study, offering insights for CEOs and managers. It stands as a unique research work on this intersection, highlighting the relevance of Adi Shankaracharya's life for contemporary organizational practices.[10]
Controversies
He has been involved in controversies concerning his statements on a "Hindu nation" and Sai Baba.[11][12]
