The Pearson 28-2 is an American sailboat, that was designed by William Shaw and first built in 1985.[1][2][3]

The Pearson 28-2 was a new design and replaced the Pearson 28 in the company product line.[4][5][6][7][8]

Production

The boat was built by Pearson Yachts in the United States from 1985 to 1989, but it is now out of production.[1][3]

Design

Pearson 28-2

The Pearson 28-2 is a recreational keelboat, built predominantly of fiberglass, it has a balsa cored deck and wood trim. The design has a masthead sloop rig, an internally-mounted spade-type rudder and a fixed fin keel.[1][3][5]

The design has a length overall of 28.46 ft (8.7 m), a waterline length of 24.47 ft (7.5 m), displaces 7,000 lb (3,175 kg) and carries 2,550 lb (1,157 kg) of lead ballast. The boat has a draft of 4.83 ft (1.47 m) with the standard keel. An optional shoal draft keel was also available, with a draft of 3.50 ft (1.07 m).[1][3]

The boat is fitted with a Japanese Yanmar 2GM20 diesel engine. The fuel tank holds 18 U.S. gallons (68 L; 15 imp gal) and the fresh water tank has a capacity of 25 U.S. gallons (95 L; 21 imp gal).[1][3]

The boat has a PHRF racing average handicap of 186 with a high of 192 and low of 180. It has a hull speed of 6.63 kn (12.28 km/h).[3][9][10]
