Nadi River is a river of Viti Levu, Fiji. The region experiences floods every year, causing major damage in infrastructure and public health issues.

Flood control

A significant problem in Nadi is flooding that causes various damages to environment. As extreme weather conditions are frequent across Nadi town, the plain located in Nadi became submerged in water.

Since 1991, there have been 26 major floods in the Nadi catchment. In January 2009 a flood claimed 11 lives, leaving 12,000 people homeless and resulting in FJD113 million damages. [1][2]

Hall Contracting was engaged to subject the river's flood issue in 2008-2010, make the flood mitigation project for the river take on the dredging work, as many of Fiji’s coastal rivers were suffering so much from serious sediment build-up as a result of soil erosion in the upper catchments, storms and cyclones posing significant flood threats to towns and villages in coastal deltas. To mitigate the issues, Hall Pacific cooperation with Government of Fiji and goes to approve the project, it was approved and implemented, coordinate with Government of Fiji, they were achieved with constructing drainage facilities, embankments, reservoir and others water conservancy facilities located in lower reaches of Nadi and river, and there were removed 1.2 million cubic metres excess sediment, significantly reducing the impacts of flooding in the area.[3][4][5]
