Manus (meaning hands in Latin) is an autonomous artificial intelligence agent developed by the Chinese startup Monica.[1] The agent is designed to independently carry out complex real-world tasks without direct or continuous human guidance.

History

Monica was founded with the ambitious goal of creating advanced artificial intelligence agents capable of operating independently, moving beyond traditional large language models. The official launch of Manus on March 6, 2025, quickly drew significant international attention. Experts and media alike described Manus as a game-changer in artificial intelligence because it could autonomously handle complex tasks, including writing and deploying code, without needing direct human intervention.[2]
